At least I'm changing the subject...
I was horsing around this week and found what was supposedly a FPDW game on
the MSNBC games website. (Go to MSNBC.com, then Entertainment, then Puzzles
and Games, and then it's not hard to find.) After playing it for a while, I
wondered why my score was improving so quickly when I wasn't really hitting
anything using regular strategy. Eventually I figured out why. If you get
a winning hand, the game returns your original bet, so instead of
1,2,2,3,5,9,15,25 ++, it actually returns 2,3,3,4,6,10,16,26 ++. I figured
there had to be strategy adjustments, so I ran this through VPSM. (There
are many: notably never hold an inside straight with no 2's, and hold a
4-card open straight with one 2 -- weird!)
There are progressives on the 2's and RF, also.
Without considering the progressives, I then went to Winpoker, figured the
actual game EV at 146.23% with a variance of 26.6. Basic strategy of VPSM
gave me not even one minor error playing the amended schedule on Winpoker
(after about 500 hands, at any rate).
I tried to calculate it with prog 2's, and if I did it correctly, I got an
EV of 157.04%. I'm afraid to calculate it with the prog RF!
I sure wish I could play this for cash!! Too bad we'll never see this in an
actual casino. It's been fun seeing how fast your credits run up on this
game.
I know it's a waste of time, but......

session.
