That is such an excellent article! He's right on about
the "drawings" problem. Green Valley Station has a promotion where,
by just sitting at a nickle slot, playing a nickel at a time, you
have the same chance to win a "jumbo jackpot" as a $5 VP player. In
other words, all you have to do is "be there".

What casinos are doing their drawings this way - mailing out coupons for lots of tickets?

My guess would be that he's referring to the Fiesta.

In my opinion, part of the reason casinos do this is that when you
are advertising a promotion, part of the gimmick is to convince you
that anybody can win. Regulars that go to a casino and see the same
high roller win multiple times will lose interest in the promotion.
If they see multiple "granny" types win the promotion, even if they
had the same chance to win, it will feel like it could also happen to
them.

Harrah's has been doing this for years. They send me
junk mail** every month urging me to come in and play
to get more entries in their latest silly contest. I
just ignore it all now, unless I know for a fact I'm
going to be in their casino when a drawing is
scheduled to occur (which is rare).

"Look, calculate your printing & postage costs to send
me this crap every month and just add that amount to
my cashback, OK?"

Hey, watch this!!!!! I guess I am more aware of stereotyping now that I turned 65 and went on Medicare. "Help - I've fallen and I can't get up." Or, my version is: "Help - my old body can't do what my young mind can think up!!

I have received post cards for free drawing tickets from Stations, Coasts,
Silverton, and others... Just this week received an offer from Silverton to
come in to get 20 extra tickets per day to win a car.
