Need Trip Bank Roll Advise For $

After playing .25 for 2 1/2 years my wife and I are moving to dollars.
I have been bringing $1,500 to 2,000 playing quarters, for the two of
us, and that seems to work with us rarely going to the ATM for more.
As we move to dollars - 9/6 JOB - my first instinct was to figure on
bringing $5,000 to play. But I don't know. So I have two questions:
1. Does that sound about right for a couple of days on JOB dollars?
2. Seems like a lot of money to be walking around with - how do you
dollar players do that? I have slight logistic problems with the c
notes that we win on a good .25 cent Duces trip.
Thanks!

You will probably get a bunch of answers to these questions, but I will throw in my two cents worth.

5K for two days for two people might be enough. It all depends on how long each day you play and how the machines treat you. I have lost more than that by myself in 4 hours.

As far walking around with cash. 1. You can open an account at the cashiers cage at the casino you are staying at and deposit excess funds there and draw it out as you need it. 2. You can get a line of credit at the casino and pay back what you owe within 30 days of your stay. This must be set up ahead of time if you want to use it on your coming trip. Most casinos will fax you the forms. 3. You can use the "in the room safe". 4. Some hotels have lock boxes that are free to guests.

I have always found all this inconvenient (time wise), and I have never had a problem with carrying around 10k in cash each day I am staying at a casino (I play $1 TP and higher). On a normal 5-night trip, I will leave home with about 10k in cash and 20k in $500 travelers checks just for myself. I won't bore you with what I brought with me last December for a 9-night trip.

I realize that some folks are not comfortable with carrying a large amount of cash for whatever reason. All of the above methods have good and bad things about them and you have to decide which one would be best for you and your wife. I usually carry around 1-2k in cash when I am at home, but again that is just me, and besides, I am just too big, mean, and ugly for anyone to mess with.

Good luck in moving up to dollars. It can be a wild ride.

That's quite a swing in denomination, Brian. Keep in mind that the
same $.25 play (expressed in number of hands) that would bring a $2000
dip in your bankroll will bring a $8000 dip in dollars.

Even if you've allocated a sufficient bankroll cushion for $1 play
(and, if you're talking Jacks with some decent cash promotions, I'd
allow no less than $16K-$20K at minimum to ensure that you get a
decent ride on your bankroll even under less than desirable play
experience), having the stomach to part with a hefty chunk of that
bankroll over 2 or 3 trips is another matter.

Ok, sermon over

Without specifics on your intended trip play, $5000 sounds a little
high for just a couple of days -- I'd expect that $3500 would see you
through 12-16 hours of play at minimum in most cases (say $50K-$70K).

To provide a stronger reply it would be necessary to know how many
hands you ideally wish to play each trip and what's the bare minimum
of hands that you wish to ensure your trip stake sees you through
before busting.

As far as handling a large amount of cash, I generally put the cash I
bring on a trip on deposit with the casino cage (into what's often
referred to as a "front money" account) upon arriving on the property.
When we head out to LV for a week or longer, I'll wire funds in advance.

That amount sounds reasonable for two of you playing a couple days at
dollar single line JOB.

2. Seems like a lot of money to be walking around with - how do you
dollar players do that?

Here's one suggestion: Buy some of those cloth money pouches that
strap on around your waist and under you clothes. Any travel store
should have them. I bought mine at Walmart. They can reasonably
hold up to about $10,000 in hundred dollar bills. Two of these can
be worn comfortably. That means you can carry up to about $20,000
each if you start hitting royal after royal:-). No one will ever
know you have these on. Even if you were to get robbed, the thief
would have to completely undress you in order to find your stash of
money. Keep a couple $1000 handy for easy access during play, and
hide the rest in your money pouch.
