need SL host

I'll be in Reno from April 28-May 2, and hoping to stay at the Silver
Legacy to play the FPDW. Does anyone have a good host there? How
easy are the room and food comps? I appreciate any and all info.
Thanks,
Sarah from Humboldt County, CA

Hi Sarah,

Don't do it! Go to the Peppermill instead. My experience with the SL is one you might be interested in. We used to go quite often, but never played enough for a room comp. Once our play levels increased we had pretty much given up on Reno as we can actually fly to Vegas cheaper than Reno, non stop no less. (SWA had a ding fare for VEgas from Spokane for $118 this morning!)

Last spring we got an offer for $125 cash and casino rate, so we did it. Got the cash no problem, but had no luck getting the room comped. We played about $14500 coin in over two days, yet this wasn't enough. To make matters even worse the offers have all but dried up. Still get crap like casino rate, buy one get one free show tickets, but that doesn't float my boat. As usual, your mileage may vary.

With the inventory cut, tightening comps and lousy room offers my next trip to Reno will be to the Pepp. As long as SWA has a non-stop, that next trip is not going to happen either!

Hosts are listed on the vpFree database page.

I don't know if you will have much use for a Host if you average
less than $10K per day, but it never hurts to try.

I like both Silver and Pepps- hosts and vp machines
both been good to me and my bankroll, especially last couple trips.

=====================================================
If you only want to play FPDW, at the Silver that's 25c denom on the
six uprights in the alcove near the gift shop on the mezzanine level.

Ergonomics are poor there for multi-hour play - because they are
uprights, tough on your arms and there are annoying HEAT LAMPS
pointing to these machines from the ceiling. A quick check on the
math - at 800 Hands per hour = $1000 coin-in per hour, it would take
10 hours play per day to get a free and clear room comp ($10K per day
average). Higher denoms are not available at Silver on FPDW.

Food comps are very easy at Silver, you get a PIN for your slot card
and you can always check your comp total at any kiosk.

If you only play FPDW, Pepps has six 5-coin and six 10-coin SLANT top
for quarter denom (effectively 25c and 50c) Same fast speed machines
(with changeable speed settings) as Silver, so it would only take you
5 hrs to get 10K coin-in playing 10-coin FPDW at Pepps. Much comfier
slant tops at Pepps.

Pepps room comp threshhold is mysterious, but I think we (the posters
on this board) figure it to be much the same as Silver: 10K coin-in
average per day. There might be different requirements like 3-trip
average - part of the mystery that a host might help you sort out.
Could be a host offers you a discretionary comp for day 1 or day 1 and
day 2, the remaining days after they review your play, but casino rate
at the most. Again, try any host on the vpFree casino database page.

Comps are easy enough at Peppermill. If a pre-comped slip from the
Info/Comp desk becomes a bother, the waitress will often take your
slot card and call in for a comp.

================================================

Go for jackpots! Comps are secondary.

I have heard good things about the Peppermill. However, I'll be in
a bowling tournament, and would like to be able to walk there. I
have to bowl early in the morning.

SL policy on marketing offers is $4K coin in/day gives 2 comps nights
sometimes with $125 Cash for $3K play. I don't know why $14,500 over
2 days didn't generate offers unless they were considering it was 2
people over 2 days which might require $16K. $4K per day will not get
you a room comped with a host, only from marketing. I think hosts
want 10K per day.
