I visited Wendover week before last overnight which was April 11-12. I have
some information about Wendover also. This is a good time to follow up.
I stayed at the Wendover Nugget because my wife and I were both going to
gamble and according to the VP2FREE it had full pay JOB at 5, 10, and 25
cents.
The room was relatively tacky. We were in a room with two beds. We could
see a number of places on the cover pillows where they had been stabbed with
a knife. One elevator was so beat up we were a little concerned for our
safety while riding in it.
I found quite a bit of full pay JOB (99.54%). They play this little trick
where the machine looks full pay but then you look at the Royal Flush and it
only paid 2500 coins. I wasn't so discriminating at first. However, I am
not sure that I found any full pay at the 5 or 10 cent level. I think they
fool you with this little trick. Their progressives were amazing for the
full pay JOB. Near the front of the casino, the progressive meter on the
Quarter game was at $1,301.96, which when calculated through Frugal Video
Poker, is a payoff of 100.1843%. The sports bar in the very back was at an
amazing $1,520.96 at the 25 cent denomination when we left. This is a
payoff of 100.7013% according to Frugal Video Poker. For the fun of it, I
calculated the comp rate at the 25 cent video poker at the sports bar. My
result was approximately 0.68% although the stated comp rate in their
players club pamphlet is 1%.
The Montego Bay, the Peppermill, and the Rainbow Hotel Casino looked very
much alike and have the same sort of machines they have in the Peppermill in
Reno. I assume they all are owned by Peppermill. Despite what the VPFREE 2
says I didn't find any full pay JOB in any of them let alone at the quarter
level. I think the best payoff was 8-6 instead of 9-6. I did find some
NSUD. It sticks in my mind that it was at the dollar level or above, but I
am not sure about that. I did find lots of video 21 in which the blackjack
pays 3 to 2. These machines have a return of 99.5-99.7. I don't remember
exactly. I like to play this game and played video blackjack for a while.
I played at the Montego Bay. I believe but am not sure that the other two
casinos also have this full pay video blackjack.
Jackpot.
Barton's 93 Club: It has full pay 2 pair Jokers and NSUD at various
denominations. It also has full pay Pick-Em at the dollar level. All of the
NSUD machines are 5 Cent coin droppers. (When you cash out, this means if
you are $40 ahead playing NSUD, you get your credits in $40 worth of
Nichols.) Unfortunately Barton's 93 Club is a dive and they are fairly
stingy with their offers. Their comp rate is about .23% and that is it.
They never offer free rooms or anything else. The only time they ever
offered me anything of significance was a Sunday around July 4 several years
ago when they offered $50 in play because it was the 50th anniversary of
their opening.
Cactus Pete's has eliminated all their full pay games over the last few
years. (I disagree with someone on this list who recently said they have
either NSUD or full pay JOB at the dollar level, which I don't play anyway.)
However, they are relatively generous with free rooms. I went to Cactus
Pete's with some friends about 1.5 months ago. I played mostly 5 cent JOB
5-6 (ouch). I also ran fifty dollars through a quarter JOB 5-8 machine at
the main bar. Yesterday I received my first bimonthly offer. It consisted
of two free rooms and two days of double comps a month for May and June.
The free rooms are at the Horseshoe across the street. On Tuesdays, you can
eat their buffet for hardly any comp points. I can see myself going there
on Tuesday and spending the night. I will play maximum of 10 cent crappy
JOB, get a free meal and free room. It is a way for someone from southern
Idaho to play a little video poker at low cost.

Over in West Wendover, I have trouble finding anything to play at the
Montego Bay-Peppermill-Rainbow casinos. (Although the rooms at Montego Bay
are
outstanding....if you live in a city that has the Wendover charter flights,
I think it's well worth a couple hundred bucks for a couple days at any of
the hotels.) The Nugget has a bunch of 8/5 BP (.25) and has the better
buffet of the four major casinos. The Red Garter just changed ownership and
I'm not sure if they're open at the moment.
I've been up to Jackpot twice. If you're heading through on I-80, it's a
long way out of your way for the VP that's up there. (Because of it's
appeal primarily to the out of state trade, I like to think of it as "West
Wendover North".)
Over here in Elko, you can find FP Pick 'Em at Gold Dust West
(.05/.10/.25/$1), the Red Lion and Gold Country (.25 coin droppers), the
Commercial
($1), and at Stockmen's (.10). There are also a couple of 9/6 JOB triple
play
machines at the Commercial. (As well as a very old and moderately rare
"Nevada Bonus Poker" nickel machine.) If you want the real "old school"
casino experience, stop downtown and take a walk through the Stockmen's and
Commercial. If you're looking for a place that still has Keno runners so you
can play while in the Coffee Shop, stop by the Red Lion (the only place in
town that still has a buffet). Of all the places in town, Gold Dust West
has the best coffee shop overall.
I've never made a dime of profit in Winnemucca. As I recall, there are a
couple of FP Pick 'Em machines (.25) at the "Winner's Casino". The Red
Lion is not affiliated with the Elko casino and does not have a player's
club.
The Model T was just taken over by the same company the bought the
Stockmen's and Commercial in Elko. They say the place is jumping, but the
last
time I was in there I couldn't find much to play.
