Need help planning Reno trip mid-October

We are not familiar with Reno, as we've only been there once maybe 8 years ago. At that time we stayed at the Peppermill, and enjoyed it very much. This trip we plan on staying at harrah's for 7-star, and also at the Atlantis.

Our questions:
1) We understand that there isn't transportation from casino to casino; we were also told that the shuttle from the Harrah's casino in Reno was just 15 minutes to the airport. Rather than spend $30/day on a rental car, how difficult would it be just to take the casino hotel shuttle to the airport, and then the shuttle from the airport to the next casino when we want to move around a bit - say get from Reno to Atlantis, or Atlantis to Peppermill? Any other suggestions for getting around? How much would cab fare be, for example? Or, is there a city bus that would do the trick?

2) On a 7-star trip, we get $500 to spend at the Harrah's casino. Are there any suggestions for what the Harrah's in Reno would have to offer? Usually on 7-star trips, we've gone to LV and met up with extended family, and we had no trouble spending $500. Is there anything special that we should consider at the Harrah's in Reno? Alternatively, are there more options at the Harrah's in Lake Tahoe? It will be just the two of us, and spending $500 over a period of 3 nights likely won't happen unless there are recommended shows or something else special to spend it on.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

They run every half hour, so it will take you 15 to 45 minutes to get from the airport to Harrahs.
I'd call up any executive host at Harrahs and ask for a limo, after all you are an elite 7 star visitor.
In the rare event they say NO, a taxi will cost you about $20 including tip. The Eldorado is across the street from Harrahs , so you might want to grab that one if its there.
There are some nice shows and rest's at Harrahs, so you will have no problems unloading the $500.
I personally prefer the gaming at AC Harrahs than Reno/Tahoe. The Atantis and Peppermill are another stoy.

regards...Tom

The Peppermill is about 1/2 mile from the Atlantis if you don't mind walking. Taxi fare should be minimal.

Cab fare from the Atlantis to Silver Legacy/El Dorado/Harrah's is approximately $15-$17.

With any luck you won't have to wait the full 30 minutes for the airport shuttle. Unless there is a lot of traffic, shuttles to/from the airport/casino take about 10 minutes.

One time when I thought I just missed the shuttle, another "generic" van offered to take me to the Atlantis for a charge (maybe $20). I suppose you could use shuttles to go from hotel to airport to hotel; I've never done it. I also have not taken the bus.

tee_and_j: Are you going to the Atlantis under the Insider Program? Since you are 7*, this program is great - see details at http://www.atlantiscasino.com/insider/. If you didn't know about this program, please e-mail me privately and I can give you some hints to get the most out of it.

That is definitely the cheapest option - FREE. Depends on how much time you want to spend moving around and how much money you need/want to save.

The Atlantis shuttle runs every 30 minutes. Leaves the airport on the quarter hour - leaves the casino on top and bottom of the hour.

If you're a 7* player, then Harrah's should LIMO you around, BAR NONE.
However, the TriPlex (CircusCircus/SilverLegacy/Eldorado) is right across the street, as is Cal-Neva. The only places you would shuttle to is Atlantis, Peppermill, Grand Sierra Resort, and JANugget.
The city bus (RTC) is $2 each with a transfer, or $5 for a 24-hour pass.
If you want to go from downtown to JANugget it's the #11. Downtown to GSR is #14. Downtown to Pepp/Atl is "Rapid".
However, going from downtown to any other property using the "free" shuttles shouldn't take more than 30 minutes TOTAL.

It also pays to know the shuttle schedule. As Jean points out the Atlantis shuttle goes every 30 minutes. For a time the Silver Legacy only ran once an hour but it was back to every 30 minutes last month. Those are the only shuttles I am familiar with.

Both casinos have offered to pick me up by limo, but I'd rather avoid a large tip and ride for free (aside for a small tip to the driver for the bags).

I have to say, I also, have done the 'double' shuttle run to get from one casino to the other (I am a cheap SOB). However, going from the Atlantis to the Peppermill is only about a 13 minute walk, and if it is too cold, take a cab. Cab fair plus tip is only about $6. The double shuttle run between these two doesn't make much sense if there are two of you, as you have to allow for tips for the drivers....If you do the double shuttle run, you have to hustle to get from the shuttle drop off point to the shuttle pickup point....

If that happens to you, then you have an A-hole for a driver. 99% of the drivers I've had, drop me off right there at the shuttle "round-up" point.
