NCL Meal Changes

Hello,

We have been on the NCL Star now for 17 days and have another 10 to go. I thought I’d share our experience with the meal package changes since it was discussed a month or so ago here.

The specialty meal package you buy or get free with a new booking includes unlimited starters, sides and deserts and 1 entrée. The latitude specialty meals now only include 1 starter, 1 entrée and 1 desert, with NO sides. Sides are all billed extra. As always, sometimes the waiter will not charge you if they think they will not get caught and that you may tip them extra for doing it. For example, on one of ours she told us she didn’t charge for one soup and one side and only billed one of the sides. The Platinum Plus meals we get have changed also. We now get one dinner for two at Cagney’s or Le Bistro with Wine (1 starter, 1 entrée, 1 desert) and one at La Cucina or Moderno with No wine.

I’m sure everyone received the list of new latitude benefit levels and the revised benefits so I won’t repeat it. I can confirm the best benefit is the 15% off excursions. They even gave it to us for our private 2 day Israel tour that cost $2,525, at first they were not going to but finally got it clarified. We also did get dinner with the Captain and the two friends we are traveling with (and four others) at La Cucina. We were also offered dinner with the environmental officer but declined.

Casino at Seas is changing also for the next segment but I assume everyone got that email also.

Forgot to mention, the “coupon” they give you (now just a regular piece of paper with the two dinners and laundry all on it), does say maximum $20 entree, so you do have to pay extra for the special entree’s.

Also, we did have more excitement. We had special armed security force on this ship as we sailed through the dangerous Gulf of Aden, and just our luck the next day the pirates did take over a vessel. Lucky we were a day ahead of the pirates. As we were leaving Israel we had Russian helicopter buzz us a few times along the balcony.

In a subsequent cruise, they did finally get nicely printed food vouchers to use.
