NCL CAS Changes?????

We just did a one week Caribbean cruise on the NCL Escape. It was a CAS comp’d slot tournament cruise. Two things was different than our last cruise last April on NCL. No daily room amenities (except the ones upon 1st day arrival), either from the Casino nor because we are Platinum Plus. We have always received daily things throughout the cruise from both the Casino and NCL. The other thing was for the 1st time, we received NO end of trip Casino comp against our final bill. In the past 30+ NCL cruises we have always gotten anywhere from $600-$2,000 in comps against our final bill. I know it was not our play, as we played & lost double what we normally do on a 7 day cruise. We are both CAS Safire (former Gold level).

We are going on the same itinerary (because of changes due to Hurricanses) for two weeks at the end November and will cut way back if this is their new procedure.

Has anyone heard of these recent new tightening of benefits on NCL?

Thanks,

Dave

I thought things were tighter on our last cruise, but we did receive something in our rooms, usually candies (thanks so much, I’m diabetic), 3 or 4 times.

There has been a general downgrading of benefits, though. But I’ve never NOT gotten an end of trip bill credit. I’ll admit that I’ve been very lucky on cruises and have ended up on the plus side for all except one cruise. But even so, there has always been a credit, depending on - I think - the number of credits earned. It seems to have been a varying multiple of what the free play would have been, with the multiple escalating at higher levels of points. One thing I always do, however, is go down to the host desk after 6 on the last night to make sure they’re giving me the credit.

There is the POSSIBILITY that they might have missed it and carried over your credits. On the first day, go to the casino host desk, and ask that they get in touch with the Escape and see if there’s any carryover credits. Keep going back and pestering them if they don’t get back to you. It usually takes 24-48 hours to get the response back. If you’re going on the Escape again, they should have the records right there

If they claim there’s no carryover, then you should raise a stink about it. If in fact it wasn’t an error, but a deliberate policy change, then that represents a very significant downgrade in the benefits.

Having typed all that out, there is one additional factor to consider - the comped slot tournament cruise. They are really cheap on those, as opposed to a regular Casinos at Sea comped cruise. The sort-of-explanation I got was that it is just a standard comp for everyone who qualified for the tournament, not particularly geared to your CAS-level or points.

Hope this helps, and let us know how you make out. Hopefully it was just a foul-up and will be rectified.

Well, never got anything for that slot tournament cruise. The only answer I got from CAS was a vague reference implying there wasn’t anything “eligible” left on our bill that they could credit. So it appears they have put in place a new system that only certain room charges can be credited. For example, if you pre-pay a lot of stuff like excursions, dinner & beverage packages, wifi, maybe room service charges, etc. then you won’t have hardly anything on your room on the actual cruise, so they won’t give you any credit. Again, the answer was very vague, but this is my best interpretation of the screw job!

The past two weeks we were on another cruise and the casino had all kinds of screw ups on us and our account, but at the end they did give $600 comp, now that sounds OK, but when you divide it down between two pretty large gamblers and two weeks, its only $150 each per week … but at least it was something. We have never netted a winning cruise, even the maiden voyage of the Escape where I won two $10,000 progressives back to back on the same machine the first day we sailed.

BTW, new CEO made yet another raise, increasing the “service charges FKA tips” from 18% to 20%. Of course they still pressure you to tip above this since the actual waiter/room steward no longer actually gets the full amount of the NCL “service charge”, NCL keeps most.
