Nasty Spin session

There is a quarter spin poker 9/6 JOB at Motor City Casino in Detroit. I play this once in a while when I am in the area. Between the 0.167% CB, the freeplay mailings, drawings and comps, it's about a breakeven play. I had also been doing pretty well on the game. However, yesterday's session was rough:

First $100 lasted 150 points. Since $3 earns 2 points, that is $225 coin in. The next hundred got me to $450 coin in. The 3rd hundred got me to $750 coin in. Gotta get better , right? I ended up earning 1758 points and lost $700. Lost $700 on $2637 coin in, a 73.5% return. Ouch.

John, I feel your pain. However, while the magnitude of this loss
(expressed as a percentage of coin-in) was large, my experience
suggests that it's far from an extreme result.

While my wife are reasonably comfortable with $1 single line and $.25
10-play 9/6 JB, we run from $.25 spinpoker. I'd estimate that the
variance (expressed as bets) is considerably higher than 10-play.

Similar to 10-play, the spinpoker cards held on the draw become pat of
every final hand - seving to make results significantly more volatile
than if you were to compare it to playing 9-hands independently at the
same single play denoination. What's at play here is that when the
held multiplay cards are particularly strong, then all rsulting hands
tend to be strong. The opposite is true when held cards are weak.
The extent to which one hand result is related to that of another is
termed a "dependency" in statistics.

Were this the only factor contributing to additional game variance
over that of single play, 10-play and spinpoker might have similar
variance. However, whereas the results of the draw in n-play are
independent of each other (the dependencies lie in only the held
cards), in spinpoker there are additional dependencies between lines
as a consequence of the draw ... intersecting lines mean that one or
more cards on th draw may be shared between final hands.

I'm not familiar with how to calculate variance for spinpoker (this
requires that a related covariance of the game be determined).
However, my experience suggests that total spinpoker variance may be
at least 50% higher, likely more, than 10-play (again, both expressed
in terms of total bets). That's enough to drive spinpoker out of our
league at the quarter level. (I'm dying to find a good nickel or dime
game: it's fun! - although there's a certain "Where's Waldo" aspect in
trying to figure out just where all the wins of a play are

Hi,
Does the Casino give you a W2G when you play quaters, if you hit a
royal flush?

One thing to keep in mind about SpinPoker:

If you are dealt 4 cards to a Royal, you cannot get just one Royal on
the draw. You'll get either 0, 2, 3, or 5 depending on where in the
5x3 matrix the draw card falls. This is true of any one card draw type
hand in SpinPoker. So if you are playing this game at the quarter
level and you have a one card draw to a Royal, it will always result in
a W2-G if you connect.

You just have to come to Chicago where the Majestic Star has .05 9/6
JOB spin poker deluxe plus the 99.9% version of triple deuces.

Thanks T-1! I'll file that one away for the next time we visit my
sister-in-law. It'll make for one of the finest and most novel
sessions I'll have enjoyed in ages.

Gotta tell you, I'm particularly impressed with this reply. My post

I'll add that the Peppermill in Reno has quite a few 9/6 JoB spin
pokers, both regular and deluxe, in pennies and nickels (and probably
other denoms, I don't remember).
