My trip report

Went to meet siblings who I see twice a year.
They drink like fish. During
this trip if I didn't have a drink in my hand I
was nursing a hangover. They stayed at the Monty
Carlo I was at the Golden Nugget.

Shows:

- Carrot top – Funny as hell. Worth the money.
His warm-up act was a stiff.

- Don Rickles – Dispointing. I'm not sure what
I expected. The warm up act is a group of
Sinatra impersonators. Rickles stichk still
revolves around Polock and "Colored Guy" jokes.
Some people were laughing but I just left.
I guess if you liked him when you saw him in
'74 he'll probably keep you entertained now.
I'll give it up to him on one level, at 81 he
seemed pretty spry.

Food (in no special order)

-Binnons coffee shop, 3 times. Cheap, good
breakfast specials.
-Golden Gate. As always a serviceable deli.
Reasonable food at reasonable price.
-MSS Buffet. T-Bone steak night. The sibs
thought this was nirvana.
-Monte Carlo Buffet and Coffee Shop. These
are the Carolla's of strip restaurants, pretty
much like the Monte Carlo in general. Everything
is good enough but nothing is remarkable.
-The Great Moments Room at the Vegas Club. I'm
saddened when I eat in here. The food and service
were very good.
-Coffee Shop at El Cortez, 3 times. Ok food,
not a great value, mediocre service.

Gaming

El Co, 10/7 DB. (3) 4 hour sessions. + $250.
4 Q's 10/7 DB (4) 4 hour sessions. +$200.
Vegas Club 10 nickle double/double bonus. + $1040

I generally just pounded the 10/7 DB to good effect.
I might get down a hundy or two but I'd always have
a run of 4 of a kinds or hit aces. The Vegas club
bit was a total anomaly. I've always liked the place
for God only knows what reason. Probably because I
had a dealt royal there a couple of trips back. Anyway,
went there to burn up an hour before I was going
to head to the airport. Sat down at 10 nickel
progressive ddb slant-top. Really just trying to
burn some time, couldn't even tell you the return
on this game, although with the jackpot was at ~$760
I suspect positive. Hit an $80-handpay and moved to
the next machine in the cluster of 6 while waiting to
be paid. Hit the royal (a sequential in clubs) while
still waiting for the prior hand pay. Collected the
$840 and played off the remaining few bucks I had left
in the machines. Hit 4 aces for another $200 hand pay.
All three of these happened in about 40 minutes.

I'm sorry to see the Vegas Club declining. The
nickel progressives used to be in the casino out
back. That area seems to have been emptied and
the machines moved up front. This along with the
closing of the upper deck makes it appear this
place is heading to an unceremonious end an inch
at a time.

Downtown vs the Strip

Downtown is still preferable to the strip but what
is that smell? I'm gonna guess Satan's flatulence.
Whatever it is it stinks badly. The only thing I
miss downtown is a good sport's book.

All I can ask about the strip is how many $200 a
night rooms does the world need? Apparently many
more with the city center and new towers at Wynn and
Venetian. If weren't for entertainment and relatives
I wouldn't go to the strip at all.

The outcome

A very lucky final 40 minutes. I payed for everything
in cash and came home with $300 more than I went with and
spent some time with people I love. A pretty good trip.
