Well, I went to Vegas & put some of my new education to use. I was
able to spot the JoB machines, and could understand their paytables.
I was surprised to find so many 6/5 machines, and so few 9/6! I know
to you all, it's no surprise... but this is the first time I had
ever 'looked' at a paytable! I took time to look at other machines
briefly, just so I would be more familiar with them when I read
about of them here & there.
As for my playing..well, I ended up playing a 9/6 .25 machine at
Arizona Charlies. I spent a lot of time trying to understand the
hands delt & reading my strategy card. I won very little, and left
in the negative. I was not really expecting to win, just wanted
some 'hands on, live' practice time, which I got. I felt
uncomfortable & really felt I needed to practice on the computer
more at home. Which leads me to my first question..
If I was 'joe schmoe', playing without any strategy on a .25, 9/6
JoB machine, playing max coins.. what might my return rate be? Would
it be any better or worse than playing the same amount on
a 'generic' slot machine? In other words, are VP machines better
than slots, even if you 'don't know what you are doing'?
Speaking of slots, I did do some slot play..the most memorable was
on my last day there. I was at the Aladdin & took a chance on a $1
Wheel of Fortune machine. I bet max ($2) & risked $80. I played for
about 1/2 hr or so & walked away $185 ahead. I hit a $125 bonus & 2
$40 bonuses, plus some little stuff in between. It's the first time
I played $1 slots was happy to walk away ahead! Luck, I know, it was
just luck! It was fun at least.
I want to thank all in the group who have been so kind to offer me
their advice & guidance. It made my trip better, even though I did
not have enough confidence to play much VP. I will continue to
practice, ask questions & learn as I go...
