My intro

Hi all,

Nice to see this finally happen. It will be good to chat with people
who actually know how to play VP instead of the uninformed types who
stare at me when I make those odd looking holds on All American while
they play PickEm next to me. And since I don't get to skip town and
head to Vegas thanks to owning my own business, I don't have much to
contribute to VPFree.

I've been playing VP since about 1995, but only "learned" how to play
in 1999. I loved playing but hated losing, found a couple of
articles and ads about strategy, researched it on the net, got
WinPoker and VPSM, and now I actually make a profit at it. Well, at
least I used to make a profit. I'm in a slump right now, 3 months
today since my last royal, 149 one card draws to the royal that
haven't filled in, and I'm too depressed to add up the number of
hours of play since that last one.

I used to be a "big dog", playing the dollar progressives at Harrah's
and Ameristar and raking in royals over $10,000. I had built up a
decent bankroll by starting on quarter AA and then moving to the
quarter progressives back when they used to get positive. Now,
thanks to greedily overplaying my bankroll (on an evil $5
progressive), an unbelievably bad record on dollar AA (I'm in the
bottom 1% of expected results), and Ameristar slowing down the
progressive meters, I am stuck with quarter AA. I am sick of it! I
have to play 2 machines at once to keep from falling asleep. There
just isn't much thrill in aiming for a $1000 royal when I used to hit
those big ones. Anybody else here miss the thrill of chasing even
the quarter progressives? It motivated me to know that I was racing
with everyone else on the bar.

I've probably seen most of the KC regulars or even chatted with some
of you. For several years I have been going to the boats 3 to 7
times a week. I have played a lot of hours at all the casinos in
town depending on who had the best promos and coupons at the time.
I'm currently playing mostly at Harrah's and the Isle of Capri (also
known as the Pile of Debris) because they are giving me the best
coupons and offers. Ameristar has irritated me, so I am punishing
them by cashing my coupons and leaving most weeks. I was very
unhappy when the Isle recently dropped Ladies Day because I always
liked getting the $15 free food from the deli to haul home or to
work. In fact, a lot of the great promos and opportunities we used
to have are gone now. I'm afraid KC is heading in the same direction
as Vegas, with fewer good plays and more knowledgeable players
competing for them.

I love the idea of a get together. We could just meet in the diamond
lounge at Harrah's if everyone has a diamond card. Wouldn't even
have to use comps that way. Forever Frugal!!!

Hi Julie,

Yes Lucky Lucy and I are both diamond card players at Harrah's. That would be a great place to meet.

We just have gold cards at Harrah's. We just don't spend enough money to get bumped up.
