my flight is delayed - spam

Watch out for new spam when email comes from a "friend" in trouble.
Before sending money - contact that person to see if they really sent the email.
Apparently scammers are now getting into accounts, finding out who knows
who, and then send email coming from the "friend" that looks legit.

Exactly the same thing happened to me when I got an email earlier this week from a friend I hadn't spoken to in a while who the email said, supposedly was stuck in London, England because of the Volcano eruption and needed funds immediately as his credit card didn't work in any ATM there. I immediately called his home and office only to find out that he was nowhere near London.Talk about being up to date! Somehow his name and email particulars had been gotten hold of by a scam artist.

There are HUNDREDS of spam/fraud/scheme emails going around on the internet. If you feel it is appropriate to post them here, then this board will be cluttered with these type messages. Virus warnings as well. Should we all be posting them here, or is it clearly off topic?

General virus/spam warnings shouldn't be posted, but comments on
virus/spam messages that have been posted may be appropriate.

i could be wrong, but i don't think this message was "posted."

it appeared to me - even before the subsequent chatter - that somebody hacked into the original poster's e-mail account and sent the message to everybody in the address book, which, unfortunately, would include vpfree.

That happened to me too. They hacked into my hotmail account and send all my contacts spam for electronic merchandise.

This just happened to me, my sister called and said she got an email from me saying I was in london w/ no money, ect... I told her it was false, tried to get into my email account w/ juno to send everyone emails saying it was a scam and I could not get into my email at all. After I finally got a hold of someone, they got me into my email but everything was gone! No address list, no emails nothing. Juno said they couldn't get it back. I was pissed. Luckily we were already switching to cable internet but I hadn't transferred my email addresses yet. That's what I get for procrastinating!
