My apology to the group; I'll be limiting my posts from now on

I hope that folks who have tired of me will at least read this post, and then perhaps give me a second chance in the future.

It has been brought to my attention, and rightly so, that I have been posting here excessively. My only excuse is that I am so interested in VP that I just got carried away without realizing how much I was writing. I receive my posts via e-mail, and then delete them when read, so I don't have anything that I can just glance at to see how much I've participated. I sure didn't mean to monopolize, bore, or come across as a 'know-it-all' or some sort of an 'authority' on VP or anything else; on the contrary, most of the discussions in which I've participated have been more of a learning experience for me than anything else, and I am grateful for the knowledge that the group has shared with me. I enjoy VPFree very much, and the last thing I want to do is to wear-out my welcome.

As for those who have brought this excess to my attention, I sincerely appreciate their candor; if it were not for them, I would probably continue as I have and consequently drive even more people away from me. I am not angry or offended by them, and my feelings have not been hurt, although I am a bit embarrassed that someone had to bring such selfishness to my attention. Please accept my apology and my promise that I'll try hard to be more reasonable and responsible in the way I post here in the future. I think that no more than a few posts each week should be acceptable, ... and I'm more than willing to continue any further discussions beyond that via private e-mail if any members want to do so. I do have a little bit of unfinished business regarding a couple of inquiries which were directed to me via the group, and to which I think that I ought to respond publicly before proceeding with my self-imposed posting limit; they'll be posted sometime today, and then I'm going to switch over to lurking mode for awhile to give you folks a short vacation from me.

Finally, I don't want anyone to think that I am going away to hide and sulk like a child. The fact of the matter is that I have other things to which I should have devoted more of my time -- such as my strategy card project -- and so a reduction in the number of my posts in the future will be a beneficial time-saver for me, too.

Thanks for your time and interest.

Bill Velek

I think you should post whenever you want, as much as you want.
Those who aren't interested in your posts should skip them.

Nobody will be interested in every thread, or in what every other
participant has to say. Expecting otherwise is ridiculous, and IMO
speaking out on this in an attempt to silence others is silly. As
long as the posts are on topic for the forum, and not abusive,
you shouldn't feel guilty about using the forum for its intended
purpose.

Get a grip folks. Active threads with a lot of back-and-forth are
a HUGE opportunity to learn others viewpoints and to get new
ideas. Such threads were the lifeblood of rec.gambling in the
early days. If YOU don't want to avail yourself of the opportunity
to see intelligent discussion of VP, then why not just skip the
threads instead of whining that others are posting "too much".
It isn't as if there is some fixed amount of posts that will run out
when they are all used up. "Post all you want, we'll make more..."

IMO, it is unwise (perhaps even a bit insane) to actively suppress
on-topic discussions. If you want a dead useless group where nobody
posts, then be sure to complain every time someone with Bill's
enthusiasm comes along. I'm sure that with sufficient vigilence, you'll
be able to keep on-topic discussion to an absolute minimum.

As much as I'm looking forward to your strategy cards, you are one of
the reasons that I joined this group. I enjoy the information as well
as the humor I get from here. Where else do you get this kind of
entertainment? And I might add, that the price is right too.

Bill,

I have to say that I was very offended by the person who posted that chastisement. I suspect that many people share my view that you can post as much as you want. If I find your posts uninteresting I can delete them without reading just like I do when there is a thread that I'm not interested in. If I find your posts intolerable I can set up a filter to send them to trash.

It would never occur to me to post a "stop posting, I'm bored" email. If that is my reaction it is my person feeling. I don't have the right to tell anyone else not to post or what they can and can't post on. To me, that is the height of arrogance.

For you to lose your enthusiasm because one or more boorish people believe they have the right to control this list would be wrong. Please continue to post as much or as little as you wish.

Bill,

For what it's worth, I enjoy reading your posts. I do not find them
tiring nor excessive.

Pat Z.

I for one agree completely with Steve on this subject.

once before Mr Veleck got upset when he wanted to come up with
strategy cards for short coin & short pay machines, 1st because no

whether he post or not who cares?
The attention he has received because of this is what is important to
him. Why else get upset about 1 negative (& correct) opinion ???

It's pretty hard to resist a reply when you are on the receiving end of pot shots. I know this is off-topic, but who, exactly, is actually justified in making any further posts on the subject?? ... the person who is attacked, or the persons who are doing the attacking? Why do any of you feel compelled, or justified in any way, to add your negative comments and further aggravate the situation? Why can't you just "let it go" and move onto VP? That's all I want to do, but posts like the one below compel me to answer.

Oh boy, such a warm response, let me see,
1 and only 1 person complain and 1 agreed, ...

I also received a private email from a third person expressing similar sentiments; that was soon after the first two posts and before I received any opinions to the contrary, so it seemed to me that a public apology was appropriate. Upon reflection, I also agreed with Brian that I had been posting too much, and I never tried to justify what I had done -- I just explained that I hadn't realized how much I had been posting. And I never complained that Brian should have brought such a personal matter to my attention privately, which would have been just as effective in causing me to reflect upon my past posting, and which would have precluded all of these numerous posts which have followed. It was a sincere apology. So what more do you want? Would you have preferred a nasty reply and a flame war?

... & that caused Mr Velek
to get huffy ,pick up his ball & go home,
little prissy dont you think??

I explained that I was not angry nor offended, and that I was NOT leaving the group ... but I would be reducing my posts because ...1) Michael's complaint was actually valid ... and 2) I ought to be doing other things, too. How is that huffy or prissy?

... & plz remenber, seldom edited before responding, we had to read over
& over the same messg he responded to over & over.

What in the heck are you talking about? Forgive me for bragging, but I'm one of the more conscientious 'snippers' in this group.

using 5 paragraphs to say what could be said in 5 words, (i really

Just a bad habit; too used to being paid by the word.

I know he is atty. & a Judge but still lack of

Perhaps we've uncovered the source of your hostility. You haven't had any legal troubles lately, have you?

once before Mr Veleck got upset when he wanted to come up with
strategy cards for short coin & short pay machines, 1st because no
response, then from the responses he did get, ...

Heh, heh. You take the cake. A year or so ago, before I ever even considered the possibility of marketing strategy-cards, I had offered -- FOR FREE (and am STILL offering for free) -- a strategy-card which combines PERFECT strategy for six (6) different JoB pay-tables onto a single pocket-sized card (using two sides of the card), approximately the size of a small index card, using normal-sized print. It is, however, only for short-coin ... because that's what I was playing at the time. This caused some skepticism on the part of some, with at least one stating that he didn't think that it was possible, and a bit of heavy criticism from several folks because of the short-coin play.

whether he post or not who cares?
The attention he has received because of this is what is important to
him. ...

Sure. I'm just loving it. And you're happy to give me more of it, aren't you?

Why else get upset about 1 negative (& correct) opinion ???

See above.
