Multi-strike variance: help from a math expert?

Tomorrow I fly to Reno for a weekend with a buddy from L.A. His wife
is expecting their first child within months, and this is sort of his
last chance for a weekend away of gambling fun.

Like me, he's a multi-strike fan. We'll be playing mostly at
Atlantis, likely a session at Circus, and an hour or 2 at Harrahs
(free Italian dinner on Sat night).

Here's my question. I believe that at Atlantis 5-play multi-strike,
NSUD and SDB are both available. I think both these games are only
slightly negative; as a recreational, occasional player, they're both
close enough to even to satisfy me.

Playing both of these games in the past, it's my sense that NSUD has
a much lower variance. Say playing max coin 5-play for nickels, it
feels like I've lost $100 or more in a brief session much more often
with SDB. But of course this is an anecdotal guess.

Can anyone confirm for me the actual difference in variance between
these 2 games on multi-strike?

Many thanks,

Stuart (RandomStu)

NSUD yes, SDB dunno.

NSUD 99.92, SDB 99.89, assuming of course you're using proper MS strategy.

Playing both of these games in the past, it's my sense that NSUD has
a much lower variance.

for single-play multistrike, NSUD 26.36 var, SDB 39.04 var. if the
5-play is similar, standard deviation of session results is about 20%
higher for SDB.

cheers,

Many thanks for your help, five. Using the "6-4-2" method that's been
discussed on these boards before, I've got my 4 separate strategies
each for multistrike NSUD and SDB.

My play at Atlantis has been almost all NSUD. I do think that SDB is
available on same machines, and I've played it for sure at Circus.

I'll know now to play SDB MS only when I feel like an extra shot of
variance to get my blood flowing.

Stu - the 6/4/2 method is good , but not the best. Get Dancers new VPW program, and it will tell you the optimum move for any multistrike game at any level.
PS - if your playing the 5p MS game at Atlantis be aware that one bank is short pay. Its easy to spot cause nobody is playing it !
