Multi-Strike 9/6 JoB - New Orleans Harrah's

Hello all, I am a very casual recreational low limit VP player. I have been lurking this board for several months to improve my awareness of pay tables, comps and become generally a more informed VP consumer. I purchased VPW and have improved my JoB game significantly as well as familiarized myself with several new games that I never would have learned live for real $$$. Thanks to all for your contributions to this board, it is helpful and appreciated.

I will be in New Orleans next week, and I see on VPFree2 that Harrah's has several JoB 9/6 opportunities. I prefer quarters, but the only .25c 9/6 JoB appears to be a Multi-Strike game. I know and understand that on MS basic strategy should be adjusted, but unfortunately do not have time to learn 3 new strategies in the next few days. I might have an hour or two to learn a single adjusted strategy, is there any reason not to play MS with only 2 lines? If I did that, it seems I would learn the "3rd line" strategy and apply it to the "1st line?" Finally, it seems that if I occasionally fouled up the adjusted strategy, but instead applied basic JoB strategy, that I would simply be reverting back to the basic 99.5 basic JoB expectation, or am I missing something?

TIA for any and all observations...

I just happened to be looking at this Dancer article on Multi-Strike the other day. He happens to go into some strategy for playing JoB, so that might be handy for you.

(I have a Multi-Strike question also, but I'm going to make it another thread)

keep in mind that quarter multistrike plays much more like dollar
single-line than like quarter single-line. you will find the swings
alarming if you usually play quarter single-line.

according to the database, they also have this game in nickels and
dimes. i'd strongly recommend playing dimes instead, if you don't want
to play regular 9/6 jacks in dollars.

multistrike machines usually short the royal if you don't play all four lines.

Finally, it seems that if I occasionally fouled up the adjusted strategy, but instead applied basic JoB strategy, that I would simply be reverting back to the basic 99.5 basic JoB expectation, or am I missing something?

yes, unfortunately. you will get slaughtered if you use basic JoB
strategy on multistrike JoB on anything but the top line or a free
ride, even occasionally.

if you really want to play this game, and you only have time to learn
one new strategy, learn the 2x strategy.

- use basic JoB strategy on the top line or a free ride.
- use the 2x strategy on the 1x and 2x lines.
- on the 4x line, use the 2x strategy, except that pairs and baby
four-flushes are ranked as in normal JoB strategy. (FL4 0h > pair >
highcards)

this will get you within 0.03% or so on each line, or within about
0.1% overall. basic JoB strategy, by contrast, will have you something
like 3% away from optimal.

good luck,

five

Good observation.

That's what I wasn't getting; VPW software doesn't short the Royal, I will be sure to check the pay schedule when I get there.
