multi comps...was Re: New Jean Scott Frugal Fridays Column

But it still
makes me wonder exactly how one goes about such "multi-comps" or
group-comps, and/or wonder "What am I missing here?".

So, please, fill me in: What am I missing here (both about group comps
and/or about "the finer points of" sharing accounts with someone)?
One goes about getting multi comps by being a high roller, for instance, we
play dollar triple play for 6-8 hours. Here in Indiana we can take several
folks to dinner and room on comps. As far as sharing accounts go, we both have an
account and alternate cards so it looks like we play around $60,000 coin in
every other week. But I can't get HIS comps and Vice-versa. But they will
combine our comps, for instance I will get the room for the guest, he will get the
dinner. But at our level of play our hosts don't even look up our account,
they just say, "what do you need?" And I feel like its "cheers"
there....everyone knows our name from the hosts down to the cleaning help.

I would check with a host before I charged anything to the room for more than 2 people. RFB usually means for only 2 people. However, if you are a "high level player" (and that designation varies, depending on the casino), it is easy to get food comps for more than 2 people - and in some casinos where we are long-time regulars we don't even need to clear it beforehand with the host. Locals who play above a quarter level (or just quarters for long periods frequently), especially in Vegas, regularly earn more food comps than 2 people can eat!!!

We can also get rooms for friends/relatives in many places, but that usually means that we play enough (or have enough in comp banks) during their stay to "stay qualified."

As far as picking up promotional items, casinos are usually very strict about only the person whose name is on the offer is the only one who can pick it up - it doesn't matter that both of you played on one card - they don't know that. Many casinos also require you show an ID. Occasionally some casinos will not be so strict - but I'm noticing, especially Vegas locals casinos, that ID's are being required more often. Some will allow a "spouse" to pick up both items when both received a printed offer - however, there was so much abuse with this that many casinos have stopped this practice.
