MSS Offer

The first time I stayed at MSS (4 nights), I went in cold, without a host or offer of any kind. Before leaving, a host comped the room for all nights and I received some free food. All in all, not a bad first trip. It made a good first impression and I have been back. Also since then, the offers have been rolling in, about once a month, for the past few years. Most have been for three nights and some have included weekends. Also most have had some kind of gaming tournament attached with free entry, free food and have been fairly decent offers.

That is until today.

Today I received an offer from MSS that �I pay� for the first night and then get the second night free for their �Summer Stay & Play� for Sunday through Thursday. This offer is good June 1st to August 28th and there are three of these coupons. That�s it. Nothing else. They even put my name and slot card number on each coupon so I can�t even give them away.

We all know that the summer is LV�s slowest time of the year because a lot of folks do not like the extreme heat that it has. Most of the hotels/casinos (at least in the recent past) have offered great incentives to come and play during the summer. I can only take this most recent offer to mean one of two things. Either the masses have decided they love the heat of summer and are going to swarm LV and downtown during these months and the casinos don�t really need the business, or, that they are tightening up the screws on comps.

What I personally think of this offer and what I am going to do with it I hesitate to say, because it would be rude and crude. But I will say that I hope there is enough water in the bowl to wash it all the way down to the septic tank and that it doesn�t get stuck in the pipe somewhere and block my plumbing.

Guess I won�t be going back to MSS for awhile. I�m glad the Suncoast still has FPVP and I am well treated there. Now that it is a little less crowded, I don�t have to fight for a machine anymore. Between it and the LVH (my homebase), my next 10 day stay is fully compted up front.

Why don't you try calling MSS and speaking to a Slot host? The hosts there
are pretty good and if you have a history of good play they will most likely
take care of you.
Marketing offers can be extremely variable (especially from Boyd Casinos) .
I have had offers from the Stardust that vary between 2 midweek nights and 2
buffets to 3 nights anytime and a check for $300 all within a few months
with no trip in between offers.

I know that marketing offers can be very different, but this is the absolute worst I have seen so far from any of the regular monthly offers I get, or have received, from a number of casinos. And that was the real point. I was trying to make. I hope it is not a trend.

As far as calling a host -- yes I could do that but I'm not going to. There are a lot of things I do like about MSS, but their rooms are not one of them.

I agree with you concerning the MSS rooms but I also agree with A.P.
that you should give them a call. Some of the casinos I heave dealt
with send a typical summer offer like the one you received to ever
address in their database. Sometimes the weaker offer is from hotel
operations and is followed by your usual upfront offer from marketing
or slot operations. And sometimes, like the rest of us, they just
screw up.

You may be doing yourself a favor by giving the host a shot at making
it right before you write them off.

I have not written them off, but I am already set for this next trip. Plans had already been finalized before this offer arrived. I might still get the better offers next month or the month after and this latest offer could very well be a fluke, but when, and if, I do return I will call a host. I have always done that even with offers in hand. Actually I have found out, that with a tournament offer in hand, and calling my host at the LVH, I get even better RFP with extra goodies than if I just call them. At the LVH, the hosts are their own department, but they do interface with the marketing department. If you have a decent history with the host, they can make a marketing offer super great.

A couple of years ago I called my host at the LVH for a last minute reservation during one of LV's biggest conventions. I was immediately confirmed with RFP for a deluxe 2-room suite on a top floor as I talked with them on the phone. Being the curious person that I am, I went to their web site and it said all rooms were sold out for the dates I wanted. It pays to have a solid history with a casino and especially the host. Major hotels always hold back a few rooms for preferred customers, but you must have a solid history to be able to take advantage of it. That is why I always split my 10 day stays with half to them and half to somewhere else. I have stayed at the Suncoast the last few trips and will continue to do so, so long as they retain the FPVP on the bar tops that I like so well. Of course, all this does not preclude me from visiting other casinos while I am in town, and I usually do.

The Orleans is another place that does this. Yesterday I got a special summer offer of $39 a night, with only a few times for free, like right before Xmas. Last week, the same place sent me an offer for three free night's. Ned C.The Wild Joker
