I stayed at MSS in the beginning of this month. I saw for myself the couple
mentioned on all 3 days of my 3 day stay. The woman was the better player,
playing 3-4x faster than the man. It seemed to me he was there to "save the
seat". Either one got up periodically and the other saved the seat for a 10-15
min clip. Then they did have an attendant put the machine on hold for a meal
which lasted 45 -90 min. This happened each day from about 1 or 2 pm to 8 or 9
pm. I don't recall them being smokers (or druggies for that matter :-)). It
did annoy me that they could monopolize two machines for that length of time,
but I figured that's the nature of the game in Vegas. I believe MSS should
not have allowed the machines to be shut down, if they were monitoring those
games. I don't care how many strategy players are out there, the more people
that sit at a machine, the more money for the casino.
I had a reservation for MSS two weeks from now, which I have just cancelled.
I didn't mind getting up early, or staying up late to get a seat on one of
those three, but I 'm not going to do that for a nickel based machine-trying
to play enough to get my room comped. It's really too bad. I don't blame the
players, but I do blame the casinos, because no matter how advantageous a
positive pay table can be, and we know I'm only talking fractions of a percent,
there is no way a casino does not make money off these machines. NOBODY can
play perfectly all the time, and EVERYBODY NEVER DOES!!
BTW and FWIW, I was told the comps at MSS is adjusted to include the scratch
cards.
It is my honest opinion that FPDW is an endangered species. I saw the
progressive bank taken out of the Frontier, the Coasts demolishing their entire FP
inventory, the Stations downgrading the comps on FP and now this. WHY?
9/11 was a trigger. Casinos needed to pull in every penny due to low
tourism. The beginning of the end. When they could get away with taking away one
thing.....
Beancounters. The bottom line is all important and if one machine is not
rending it's proper amount of blood, then off with it's head!
Live poker. The onset of the popularity of this game has taken the casinos
by storm, and of course they have to accommodate all the willing would-be
rounders. So in order to offset the space and overhead needed, they have to cut
somewhere else.
Think of it as a "new and improved" product-pay more/get less.

the most beautiful sight I've ever seen is the picture of the dealt
royal on the 37 play!

1. If only a "few" players are responsible, and they are acting unethically
(not sure if that is true in this case), then don't we have a situation where
"trespassing" player(s) may be a reasonable reaction by the casino (while of
course keeping the games in mention)....Wouldn't that keep the bulk of video
poker players happy? Or would we all do the same thing if we had enough time
and/or knowledge?
2. If these players are "substance abusers," you have to give them credit
for being able to (presumably) being able to play optimally, don't you? (I know
another post mentioned this, not this one specifically).
3. And is it ethical to "shut down" a machine to go to dinner, etc.? My
feeling is that it is not legitimate, and I'm surprised that casinos allow it,
given that A. they are losing potential income on the machines in question, B.
Potentially upsetting other customers, C. encouraging "advantage players"
that maybe they don't want to encourage....
4. If MSS had a problem with these particular players (and I'm not sure they
did), a reasonable response short of "trespassing" them would have been to
not shut down these machines at their beck and call, but to let others play
them in the absence of the "problem" players.

The problem arose becuase of a number of indivduals who tried to
monopolise the three FPDW machines. They would come in play only the
FPDW machines for many hours on end. A situation observed by myself
several times. Add the comps and scratch cards offered by MSS and no
wonder they were lossing on these machines. The reduction to NSUD
came as a reaction to this by the casino. Do not blame the casino
for this just a few indivuals are responsible, and they know who they
are. Eventually I feel we are going to lose all FPDW becasue of
these actions by a few greedy players. Remember casinos are not
stupid and if I can see it so can they.
