MS Trip report

Restored $1 PE very busy.
Team play quite noticeable. I saw several suits watching from time to
time. Several team members playing two machines each during the day.
Suits did not appear pleased.

Both the $25K and $50K tournaments were oversubscribed. MS added a
third daytime tourney to each. 42 machines x 6 sessions = 252 players.
$25K participants got a $50 gift card. $50K got $100 gift card.
MS assigns time and machine. Done by computer without player being able
to pick a card randomly. I guess that's O.K. but it sure could be
easily fixed. Very nice food presentation and lots of fun. They gave
away a 42" plasma TV after the final round of each tourney as well. Had
to draw three names before someone won the TV because it was midnight.

We played 90% PE and 10% negative games to try to keep a low profile.
$120K action over 4 days/3 nights. Came out ahead $1K plus lots of
points, calories (sometimes I just want a hot dog) and fun.

Haaljo, by "team play" do you mean those playing together alternately
to monopolize the machine(s)?

It was the adjective "ADVANCED" for Pick em that I enjoyed.

Stevie,
It makes sense to carry a strateg card.
It was the adjective "ADVANCED" for Pick em that I enjoyed.

Just my two cents.
I live 125 miles from MS and 150 from AC.
Standard rooms at the Sun are the nicest and cleanest I've ever
stayed in in any casino in the US..and I've stayed at quite a few.
The casino itself is kept clean and the staff is helpful.
I was at the Sun for an overnight on Fri. $FPPE machines were
generally available,( didn't notice any teams although one Asian gal
from time to time would play two machines), but when I wanted to play
Jacks later Fri. night I couldn't get near any of them! All the
machines seemed to be played by lower end slot players. In AC I
never have a problem getting a $Jacks machine.
  The Sun doesn't offer CB.
True, their comp return is high but what can an average size male
do with his points besides eat? Trailblazer, offers tons of
shirts/jackets but little else and it seems,no pants in anything
less than a 42 waist. The Golf store( I don't play and their
clothing offerings are also limited)offers me nothing. I even went to
get a pair of shoes at the shoe store and of course both pairs that I
wanted were not available in my size ! Didn't realize a 9 medium was
such an oddity ! Wish they just had a mens casual clothing store.
J. Abboud is for suits. Offerings for woman are much better. Maybe
their thinking is, let the men play and the woman shop with their
hubbies points .
Basically, in previous visits I've bought CDs and some books for
family and friends but not too much for myself( the one who is
risking his bankroll).

In summation, can't see the sense of going to a place with no CB,
nothing to use comp on, and have to worry if I'll get a machine to
play.

                     Larry F.
PS Did I mention the lack of any place to walk/crawl/jog outside ?

I think your remarks are right on and is a primary reason I have stopped
playing at MS. There are only so many Yankee Candles, Godiva chocolates you
can get. Gimme cash. This however is no sure thing in AC either. Some
casinos seem to be cutting CB. There are less and less options.

OK Mel. I call your 2 cents and raise you another penny.

Mohegan Sun (and Foxwoods) are primarily designed for middle rollers -
- matching CT's demographic as a middle to upper-middle class state.
There is little for .25 players, nothing for .05 players, and as we
see, comps really taper off for $5+ players. Look at their most
popular game: blackjack. Very few $10 tables, mostly $15 min, and
then almost never a table higher than $100 min -- not much for high
or low rollers. I put together a profile of a typical player out to
get the most out of MS:

He has 50 gambling days/yr. On the average day, he puts in $16,666
in $1 PKM* (or JOB) and earns $185 points, or $9250/yr. This just
barely qualifies him for Sachem, easier parking, lounge access, and
free tickets to all but the very highest demand shows, better slot
tournaments, and the highest level of gift/gas cards or other
marketing promotions. After that level, the advantages really start
to thin out.

I believe it is somewhat novel the way both casinos give out a
generous point level but w/o many free comps, and no cash back. It
is good for the moderate player and a refreshing alternative the
normal casinos one might find; but it is not that great for for the
player who wants to live there. I think if they were ever persuaded
to offer cash back, it would be about a third of the 1.11% they have
now, and there would be little to gain on these $1 machines for a lot
of work. At least now, up to a certain level, it's a win/win
situation for the patron and casino since they only have to pay out a
portion of your point total.

So I think you have to take it for what it is: a great place to go to
occasionally. I spend a lot of my points on extra tickets to arena
shows which are the same price as other shows in the state, and would
like to see if the travel service gets more desirable offerings. I
also like the picturesque setting. In the summer, I did go out for a
hike down to the cove and the Thames river. I went out the hotel
main entrance and crossed the main road guard rail. There are wood
chips layed down that leads to a slightly steep downhill path to the
cove with a an area to walk around it. They do not make this area
inviting, but no one stopped me from hiking around all afternoon.
Afterall, I think it was the more "Indian" thing to do.

---Steve,
I agree with you. My wife and I are $1 VP players so I think we are
in the group that benefit the most. I just got the sachem card and I
average about 35-40k per month. I just think it is a good take for
us as it is an easy drive for a day trip.

Larry,

If you are having problems finding places to spend MS points try
buying yourself or your wife a Rolex at Lux, Bond & Green.
