MS Trip Report, 2 for 1

I live in North NJ and rest of my family lives in New Haven area of
CT. Home for the holidays, I headed to Mohegan Sun Christmas Eve day
with normally non-gambling brother. Had $75 debit coupon which
expired that day, so brother volunteered to drive in exchange for
breakfast buffet. (For those curious, my first, unused December
coupon was $60. I normally play 2-3 hours per trip at the $1 Pick
em, more if I hit an early quad.) At $8.95, this has to be one of
the biggest bargains in the casino industry. Food everywhere, every
breakfast item you can imagine, plus they set up their dessert
station.

As we headed to old poker room, brother was going to veer off at the
nickel slots in the old Keno room. $20 was his limit, he said. I
said, do me a favor, I just read on a message board that the room
I;m going to has Pick 'Em poker in quarters, try that. He had
watched me play before and knew all he had to do was pick one of two
stacks, so he agreed. He headed to the .25, me to the 1.00, neither
was very crowded at 10 a.m. (two of eight machines occupied on each
bank.)

I hit a quad in first half hour. Later come to find out my brother
did the same.... kept him busy and out of my hair for another hour.
I ended up with two quads in a 2.5 hour session but only up $450.
Brother was thrilled to work up a balance of 14 comp points, which
he used to buy his fiance a small gift, and still reap over $100 in
profit. Used balance of debit card to buy my bro a Don Mattingly
figurine and brought two lobster salad grinders (Casino of the Earth
Food Court) home to parents. Home in plenty of time for mass. A good
experience.

Returned Dec. 26 with blackjack playing parents. My mom is in a
wheelchair and guaranteed a seat at handicap tables, but dad couldnt
get a seat. Together we discovered the .25 FP Pick-EM in the Casino
of the Sky just outside the big (non-smoking) turtle shell which
houses table games. How long has this been there? Kept my dad in
play, at reasonable stakes for him at a high-percentage game, within
sight of my mom. Great find.

Soon felt comfortable leaving them to head back to the old poker
room. Did not go well. Based on my point accumulation, I probably
played 1800-2000 hands and hit just two flushes and nothing higher.
Lost over 1K. Even the best play in the casino can be very streaky!

We ate at the Casino of the Sky buffet. I happen to like the Casino
of the Earth's lunch buffet better, but I know reasonable minds can
differ.

Hope this was a somewhat interesting read... my first attempt at a
trip report.

The very best bargain is to arrive for breakfast just before
11:00am. Because then they bring the lunch items out and you're
allowed to stay giving you the best of both for the cheaper price.
