MS new comps system

Report from a friend who attended MS meeting for Sagamore level players explaining new comp system to start in October.

There will be 4 levels with the top level labeled "soar" ($4,000+) every 6 mos. Supposedly the 2nd level $s threshold is going down. [There are 4 levels now, if you count Sachem and Sachem Elite separately.]

Depending on your level, you will receive special "comp points" monthly which can be spent for lounge access, hotel charges, entertainment tickets and other things (including off site events) that previously were discretionarily comped by hosts. These points would expire at the end of each month. Lounge access would be about $12 per person per each visit (actual pricing not yet determined).

Regular points would be about the same with existing points carried over. Still no points on VP, but comp points would apply and VP play would somehow be reflected in status level.

IMO, winners include players who did not visit the lounges much, and who had not requested discretionary comps from hosts. Other foods outlets may benefit from reduced lounge usage.

Losers include frequent lounge users, such as locals who visit often, but play less $s per visit. There will be much less need for host services, and perhaps less lounge personnel will be needed, thus I anticipate personnel layoffs.

The system seems to make sense, but certain problems could emerge. If there are fewer locals visits, the floor might seem even more deserted, discouraging play in general. Having an understandable, equitable system, may seem boring to players eventually.

The players attitudes at the meeting ranged from confusion to negative. Of course, "the devils in the details", so we shall see how the new system evaluates to us.

What does $4000 + mean? Is that a 6 month loss or comp? I know they are planning layoffs in oct.

Sorry, I meant 4,000 points in 6 mos, not $4,000. There will be pseudo points (for status level only) for VP, but they did not specify at what rate. Supposedly the amount accumulated will be shown on the kiosks.

Also regular points will be available for free pay at 50 cents on the dollar similar to Foxwoods.

Sounds like the virtual/pseudo points are an attempt to attract VP customers that abandoned the joint.
Guess Larry's idea of reintroducing point earning but at double the coin-in is too simple and effective.

Last Thur nite at MS I attended a presentation called "introducing our new rewards program MOMENTUM" Virtual/pseudo points=status points. Status points will be awarded on slots, video poker and table games. Status points are for tier level only and have no other value. Non of the MS presenters seem to know what coin-in/bet size would be required to earn a status point. At the Q&A session after the presentation most of the questions were answered " that is yet to be determined". Basically, the only thing I came away with from the event was a "MOMENTUM" headache.

Doug,

Doesn't surprise me. Let's face it they really don't want to give "regular points" for VP.
They're trying to sucker players in by these pseudo pts. which seem to be very discretionary( by mgmt.).
Personally I don't know why people are playing there.
PE might be 99.95% but it can also easily suck up your money.
You can play Jacks at FW and get good offers and a good comp rate.

What is this "loyalty", "addiction" to MS all about ?
This feels like the "stupidos" who still frequent CET, amidst all their complaining about reduced offers and now what seems to be a pandemic raising of coin in from $10 to $25 a pt. !

The old days are forever gone. Time to readjust.

Thanks Doug,
WTF kind of name is MOMENTUM?
Maybe an inside joke?
Anyways, what you got was a MONUMENTAL headache from the MOMENTUM meeting. Kind of like MONTEZUMA's revenge.

Mel and your reports still leave unanswered the question; why they didn't just re-introduce regular point earn but at a higher coin-in requirement? I'll leave this question figuring suits are doing a CYA.

For what its worth.

2 years ago they did a focus group to see what high level players wanted given the choice of getting rid of FPVP or not giving any pts. The players decided that they would rather have the games with no pts as opposed to not having them at all. I think they are sticking to that decision. We are going down today since Dori has fsp and 250 dining credit. I am supposed to be talking to the host who knows the most about this program. If I find out anything new I will post it

Typical mohegan sun information is withheld at the top levels and they have a meeting and can't even answer the first and most basic question...how much coin in earns a point?

Dave,

As far as the "old days " I'm beginning to think like you in so far as forget the local crap and try to hit Vegas a little more. However that too has it's drawbacks as Vegas starts to downgrade pay tables albeit not to the extent that we are witnessing on this coast. Also those 5-6 hr. flights are a real bore as is the whole flying experience. I'll be out there again for three nights as is my custom after spending Thanksgiving with the California side of my family.

Re Boston casino: I hope you're wrong on this one. I was hoping that "Stevie Boy" would get the license. When will the awarding of licenses be announced ?

For you guys in Mass. I think that it's a home run. I'll be voting against the gambling referendum that will be on our Nov. NY ballots because it does not provide for a casino in the down state ( NYC, Long Island ) area.

Although in good shape for a 66 yr. old, I am getting tired of almost 3 hr. drives to get to a casino. I am presuming by your frequent LV trips, that you and the missus are also retired !

Larry,
I'm 65 and retired. Trips to NV are for sure a grind compared to a few years ago. Takes me a week to recover.

No fun flying anymore. Back in the day, we flew first class on America West. Had gold cards.

Looking at the VPFREE2 database this morning planning upcoming trips.
Saw Casablanca in Mesquite has NSUD with .4% fsp. We used to go there a lot. They had $1 FPDW progressive and spectacular scenery next door in Utah.

Think will go back next trip. Take a ride down memory lane.

The mass gaming commission timeline for awarding 2 of the 3 licenses is by march 2014. Here's an article link:
http://www.masslive.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/02/massachusetts_gaming_commissio_12.html

"...BOSTON — The state's gaming regulators on Thursday said they will issue two casino resort licenses at virtually the same time early next year, assuring a casino will be awarded for Western Massachusetts simultaneously with one for the Boston area..."

New Hampshire is in the game as well. That casino for sure will be dead nuts on the Mass border. It will probably be opened way b4 any joint in the bay-state. Things take forever here with permits and approvals not to mention lawsuits and scandals.

Dave in Boston.

Loved flying first class non-stop on AW (america's worst) to LV from Boston. Always could double dip with MGM properties, Host could give $1500 FSP to compensate for the First Class Airfare. Nice use for frequent flyer miles

Larry,
I'm 65 and retired.

"America Worst" - I never heard that acronym used for AW. Can't remember having a problem but sure had problems with US Airways.

Do remember first class AW passenger complaining about last seat not going back as much as he "required." Hilton was the only joint that reimbursed our vegas airfare but they were only coach ticket fare.
(we got upgraded most of the time with their FF card).

It would have been sweet to double-dip but our action in other joints didn't meet requirements.
