MS Don & Mike's - the latest

Half the bar tops were converted to quarter progressive during the
week. As you might guess the paytables were savaged. The only game
that appears to be full pay is JOB. I didn't have Bonus Deuces listed
on my handy paytable sheet so I don't know what sort of percentage the
reduction translated to. Maybe a Bonus Deuces player like Howard can
confirm. The OEJ version appears to be the 98% variety. Grrr. The
progressive amount as of Thursday evening was around $1068. When it
hits $2k I might bring myself to suffer the tedium of JOB.

Some of the new 100 multiplays continue to suffer button problems. I
played on one of these where you had to be real careful with the 4th
button, you had to press it hard and verify that the card actually
held. This seems to be some sort of manufacturing defect as opposed to
being a result of the environment. I played exclusively NSUD deuces
which is ultra volatile. At $.05 playing 50 hands I went from $400 up
to $400 down within an hour. I'm not sure why this format seems to be
so much more streakier than the $.25 5-play NSUD downstairs. Another
game I noticed on these machines is TDB (99.58%) which is only
slightly worse than BDLX, but slightly better than JOB. TDB IMHO is
however much more interesting than either JOB or BDLX. It's a pity
they didn't put SDB or TB+ on these machines as they are both superior
to TDB, but I might take a stab at TDB anyway if I get saturated with
NSUD.

Some of the Multi-Strike machines seemed to exhibit static problems.
Cards would sporadically hold or clear on their own without a
corresponding button push. Technicians were summoned to take a look
but I'm not sure they solved the problem. At any rate be careful when
playing these machines.

Sometimes I should actually double check a game on Frugal before
yapping about it.

While TDB is a much more interesting game than either JOB or BDLX it
unfortunately has an ugly side to it. In particular it has a
sprinkling of AA strategy. Correct play often calls for the holding of
3 card flushes which are neither obvious nor intuitive. There are some
other wrinkles as well such as holding a 4 card straight rather than a
pair. Suffice it to say this game doesn't sync well with other games
and as a result would require a fair amount of preparation. When
actually playing the game you would be forced to play much slower to
avoid errors which would also creep in sooner when the eyelids start
getting heavy. So despite it being more "interesting" it cannot be
recommended due to the effort involved and the subsequent impact on
your wallet. Stick with the ubiquitous NSUD which pays better and can
be played at lightning speed due to a strategy which is relatively
easy to master.

You're right about TDB. It does indeed require an unusual strategy.
Also, if I'm reading my Winpoker stats correctly, it's about 4 times
more volatile than NSUD.
