MS cutting pay

read today that ms is cuting the pay on all employees from 4 to 10%
depending on position. Also some benefits are going to be eliminated.
Wonder how much they will tighten up on shows, giveaways etc.
Mel

They have been treating Judy well, but I am in the doghouse. I have lost interest in the casino, no interest in the shows, the food and wine for 2 hours based on last years lines have no interest, with giants out no superbowl interest, caberet closed. Gambling without extras, I can pass on. Royals to all...Ciao Don

10% upper management
7.5% middle management
4% hourly employees

Also MS will stop matching funds in employees 401 K's.

Remember casinos aren't losing money.. only making less and heaven
forbid this should ever happen !

It is kind of amazing when you look at their thought process. In addition to cutting down on what we give players, let's also p!$$-off our employees, too, so they can give even worse service and maybe dish out some attitude. What a great way to keep our customers happy and coming back more often.

And its not like MS was exactly overpaying employees in the first place. I once spoke at length to a slot attendant in Caesar's AC, who told me that he actually lived in Connecticut, relatively close to MS, but drove all the way down to, and worked in AC, because he got double the pay that MS offered.

Ask the 2M people who lost their jobs from Oct -Dec 2008 whether they would rather take a 4-10%
pay cut or lose their job. I think that it was a very thoughtful decision by Mohegan and shows that they value their employees.

Foxwoods laid off 1000 people, it that preferable?

As a side note, I think the service at MS is excellent.

First of all, MS already laid off 500 workers earlier in the year. And
I think that the employees did rather well, and I didn't notice any
slippage of service until recently. So while I would generally agree
with your comment, the reality is that management probably could not
have cut any more employees. But on my past few trips, there have been
evident signs of staff cutbacks/lack of customer concern. That's just my personal observation/opinion; if you haven't noticed it, that's a good thing.

If you read the reports of the cutbacks:
"It has not been a great second half of 2008 for Mohegan Sun. They have
already eliminated 500 jobs and have stalled expansion. Now, the
employees that survived the first round of firings will be left with
less money for doing their same jobs.

The cuts come at a time when Mohegan Sun is actually still
faring better than other casinos around the country. The 2008 fiscal
year ended with the casino down less than five percent from the
previous year.

It is not just today's pay that employees will lose out on
with the planned cuts. The Gaming Authority also revealed they will no
longer match payments made to 401k accounts, and all merit raises in
the future will be stopped for now.
"

So they cut approximately 5% of staff already, and now have eliminated both short-term and long-term incentives. I'm sorry to say that IMO that will impact customers negatively.

Guru:

It's a 4 1/2 drive from Uncasville to Atlantic City and it's another
4 1/2 hours back from Atlantic City to Uncasville.
