MS and FW trip report

Arrived at FW Tuesday at noontime. Gambled at the 9/5 DDB for 5 hours ($1/10 coins). Lost $1,400. There was one other player and he got a royal (holding three) which kept our hopes alive.

Arrived at MS around 6:00. There was no one at the upright $1 PE's. Put our $50 FP through; went out to eat and went to bed (Sagamore so no charge).

Frustrated at how much we lost at FW (total now close to $3K in three days/15 hours); we didn't go back on Wednesday. Gambled at the $1 PE for three hours and lost $500. No one else gambled at these machines while we were there. Did some scouting and came up with nothing playable with points. Saw two gamblers at the $10 PE pecking away.

FW offer on computer was $25 FP and free room (although there appears to be a $20 charge for room tax et al in the fine print).

I can't really say if MS crowd on Tuesday night was smaller than normal but there seemed to be more action than at FW (which doesn't say much). We left 11:00 Wednesday morning for two hour drive back to Boston.
(Why does Rhode Island do bridge work during the day closing two of three lanes instead of at night as is done in Massachusetts?)

No plans to go back to either joint right now. My wife has gotten some good offers from Vegas but have to stay close to home for the next month or so.

coins).

I assume you mean the $1 9/6 DDB machines (10 coin) in the Great Cedar
Casino...

Whew!
2 grand down is no idea of vacation. I'd rather play the quarter 9-6 at MS-until they take them away too.

Yea, I was comfortable gambling at the $1 PE, considering the alternatives, and the $50 FP provided a small edge for the $8K action we gave them (took turns).

And wanted to see if $8K action on no point machines generated any gasoline credits which it did NOT.

I'm less comfortable doing the 9/6 DDB at FW and whether we go back is dependent on the next offer which will be based on three days @ $15K/day.

We are now even for the year vp gambling. We lost $20K last year chasing our virgin 7* project.

We will eventually end up in Vegas area but wanted to have a casino near Boston when we came back "home" (especially in the summer). But with a duopoly that doesn't appear to be in the cards (pardon).

One thing for sure paraphrasing Queen of Comps "Don't marry the casino just have an affair."

I had my first opportunity to see Mohegan post-video poker x-points era on
Friday night. It was actually pretty crowded although it seems a lot of
people were there for concerts. As far as players, I would say about 80% of
the video poker machines in the Sky casino were being played. People didn't
seem to care if they were playing machines that offered points or did not
offer points. All the bar top seats were taken both in the Sky and in the
Wind. Only saw two guys playing video poker in the high limit in Sky - one
on the $10 pickem and another playing some $10 VP game.

The Earth casino was a bit less crowded but I'm guessing 60 percent of the
video poker machines were being played.

The only trend I noticed was that the large majority of players were playing
at the 25 cent level although some were playing more than 5 coins. Saw very
few playing at the dollar or above level at least in comparison to previous
trips.

Hard to make any predictions off my unscientific observations but it would
seem that Mohegan would have very little incentive to bring back points for
quarter players if they can get all these bozos to play with these
conditions. But they seem to have lost the high end player who obviously can
win a lot or more or lose a lot more than quarter players. Whether or not
that works in their favor in the long run will be interesting to see.

Well that says it all. They win, we lose. As long as they can get players at 97-98 percent games they will be happy to be rid of us.

Mike,
You might very well be right. I would just say to wait a month or two more. I don't know how many of these people realized the no pts. Its possible that alot of these Fri. players fell into this category or are players who were on the low payers and are still getting their pts although at twice the price. And soon the summer will be over and the crowds won't be there.
However if MS is proven right then its the players who supported them. Even on this board you can read about people still playing there. And yet some of them still whine !
   Thats what really bothers me.
As for me I'm back to AC.
  My two cents.

Quite a few 9/6 quarter machines were out of commission today, 8/15.
All but 4 available in the Sky and Wind casinos were down.

So Mike, it looks like you are right. Even with no points, and no tier score!! These appear to be an endangered species. I just wonder why they went to all the trouble of putting them in for only about a month???

By the way, did anyone discover if the slot play points had been reduced?

Thanks, Carol
