more re Harrahs - promotions make the difference

Though Harrah's Las Vegas and the Rio have little to offer in the way of
good VP, and their cashback is abysmal, one thing they do have is good
promotions.

Why some people get some promotions and others others doesn't make any
sense. For me, I can book anything I hear about, but I don't always get mailers,
so I have to ask my host to send me a list of upcoming events. Harrah's
often has nice slot tournaments, and also has a host of other events.

The following is based on play at Rio/Harrahs Vegas only.
Here are a few in upcoming weeks:
Aug. 6-8 - Spa weekend (I'm getting 3 treatments - some people got 2)
Aug. 13-14 - cruise on Lake Meade with dinner
Aug. 20-22 - Zumanity tickets (criteria may be higher than normal for this)
Aug. 26-28 - Toby Keith tickets
Aug. 27-29 - Phil Collins Concert
Sept 3-5 - Robin Williams
Sept. 10-12 - Shopping Spree - I'm getting $250 at Fashion Show Mall
09/23-25 - Sting Concert
9/30-10/4 - Spa Weekend (my husband got 3 treatments)

And so on.

They also have blackjack, roulette, poker, craps, and other tournaments, but
so far as I know no video poker tournaments, plus regular slot tournaments.

Diamond members may get more invitations than lesser members. Who knows.

Diamond members also can go into the nice Diamond Clubs in any property.

Also mailings include 2-3 nights of free room with an event.

You also may get other coupons for things such as room nights in Vegas or
Laughlin or Tahoe or Reno or New Orleans.

We also received free trips that included airfare to Tahoe and New Orleans
departing from Vegas. People who live in other areas may have received
similar offers leaving from their area. The more play, the better the offers for
full airfare or airfare rebate, as well as more free food at the site.

However, some other casinos also have good promotions, and pay better
cashback, so you really might want to shop around.

Anyone playing at Harrahs/Rio (or even at other properties) is advised to
contact a host to try to find out what promotions are running, since they may be
eligible even though they don't get mailings for them.

The annoying thing is that I play way more than friends of mine, but I'm
getting far fewer actual mailings from Harrahs and there seems to be no answer
for why (believe me - I tried to find out by contacting hosts, promotions,
marketing, etc.).

Read a pretty cool article about this in a business magazine. In
large part these offers are driven by a marketing program that is
computer based. It searchs for what motivates the specific patron (
food, airfare, entertainment, etc ). They also have target
profiles. The typical Harrah's patron is a mid-western, middle-aged
woman who lives within driving distance of a HET property. Saw the
same phenomenon when my wife and I both signed with Harrah's. She
never gambles and got overwhelmed with offers. Me, I got bupkis!
The program also does profit max calculations and likely has already
concluded they don't need to give you as much to get you to gamble.
Try playing hard-to-get for a couple of months and the offers migh
go up. If you say to yourself, I'd rather just play and have the
fun, you'll understand why you get fewer offers than your friends.
