more questions.... What exactly is a slot tourney?

Is it comped? If so, and it includes room you should go for it. All you
do is sit at a machine for 2 or 3 15 to 20 minute sessions, and up the scores
and pay the money. I would imagine the B also has an awards banquet to give
out the money? I would definitely go for it - you will have a great time -
and a great excuse to go to Vegas!

SK

Thanks SK. I have been fully comped at my last 2 trips to the B, so that is
an equal. It's the only place we stay and I play now.. they have few full pay
VP but hubby likes there and doesn't even want to bother with other casinos
even if you might win more. Hey, he brings home the bacon I play with so I am
a happy camper.
The mailer says

three nights comped...
   Mon
   Tue., you register
Wed. you play a full day then the big finale for prize distribution.

grand prize...20K CASH
2nd place ..10K CASH

3rd 5,000 free play
  4-5th 3,000 free play
and so on to 101st-200th place $150 in free play

You also get 500,000 holiday gift shoppe bonus points to be used Nov
26th-Dec 3rd.

Sounds like fun,
I am curious about some details since I have never read about one except on
here and it was VP.

what kind of slots do you play? Do you get to pick? Is it usually in one
big room? everyone is given you are done and the most credits win.
Would everyone have the same type of machine?
what fun to gamble with free credits. Do you just go as fast as you can or
is there a stratedgy?
I am pretty darn sure I should go on your advice SK!! Thanks.

anyone else want to chime in??

what kind of slots do you play?
Sometimes, the slots are the same machines that the casino has on the
floor (like, Double Diamond, etc.) which have had the computer chips changed
so that the winning combinations are more frequent (Venetian, GVR.
Fremont). Other times, the casino has you play on slots that are
specifically for tournament play (Stardust, Aladdin, Treasure Island, Sunset
Station).

Do you get to pick?
Sometimes, the casino has you show up a few minutes before your
scheduled session time to pick (from a bag or box) your machine number
(Venetian, Stardust, GVR). Other times, they assign your machine numbers
(randomly) when you register in person for the tournament (Treasure Island,
Sunset Station, Flamingo).

Is it usually in one big room?
Sometimes, the tournament is somewhere on the casino floor (Venetian,
Aladdin, GVR). Other times, usually when it is a bigger tournament, the
tournament is in a ballroom in the hotels convention area (Flamingo,
Treasure Island).

everyone is given you are done and the most credits win.
Yes, the winner is the contestant with the most cumulative credits
scored.

Would everyone have the same type of machine?
Definitely, yes. Otherwise, there would be a lot of complaints!

Do you just go as fast as you can or is there a stratedgy?
For most slot tournaments, you play as fast as you can....hitting the
spin button repeatedly. But, not all tournaments. The Flamingo gives you
30 minutes to use a fixed number of credits. Most people finish their
credits well before the 30 minutes have expired. However, in all slot
tournaments, there is NO strategy. It is purely luck.

Actually, I knew about the fremont set up & am signed (and comped)
to enter. I was wondering if I was using the right strategy by
changing my play for tournament versus out on the floor. I did a
little more digging & found some info on this site about playing in
vp tournaments. I had not seen this before as I'm a fairly new
subscriber. I love this site.

Curits gave you the great answers , I will add I have done both VP &
slots, timed & credits and I luv them.

Great way to to check out a new casino also as the entry fee usually
includes the room.

All the machines are identical, and you will be assigned a machine randomly for each session - not the same machine for each session either. You will all be in a special roped off area marked just for the tournament. You will have a certain amount of minutes to try and amass you score - so the strategy is to simply sit and continually bang the button. Go to a session to watch before you play - there is really nothing to it.

The neat thing about it is the machines are set to some sort of tournament mode and appear to pay about 150%. They want you to get hits so you don't get bored, I guess.

Either way, it is fun to do, and it is in Vegas! Someone will take home the prze - it could be you.

Everyone has covered most of the questions already, so I will just toss in:

1. Stardust has sent us flyers for slot tournaments for the next 4 months. Each month, the "entry fee" is $99 and it includes 3 free days at the hotel (Monday night through Wednesday night, with the actual tournament being on Tuesday.)

2. We enjoy the daily tournament at MainStreet Station. (Entry fee is only $10 or $15 each round) and you play for a part of the days "take". There are about 4 "qualifying rounds" during the day, and then the final round at about 4pm-ish. You won't get rich, but for $10, it's fun and you might win $200-300+. A nice way to pass some time, particularly if you are staying there or nearby.

3. For slots, other than hitting the spin button and getting the maximum amount of spins in the allotted time frame.....it's all luck in getting a good machine.

Have fun!
