HEY TedChee! Sorry to hear you are a victim of a policy-change. I am surprised they have
the gall to do this petty action to a long-time, valued customer like yourself. As if you
have been raping them for comps. I'll e-mail you privately & compare notes - maybe your
host is droppin the ball.
I've been at Sterling since the last restructure (Jan 2005?). My host has gotten me comps
more like the Baron level, little things like the suite (without begging for the upgrade "if
available"), the airport limo rides (which , and, lately, 3 nights free, the rest at casino rate,
per visit.
I have to admit, I've never really monitored my points closely, but I know they have crept
up quite a bit in the last year as I play many hours of 3-play 25c and 50c DDB upstairs.
Even some 5-play. and the rest of my play is probably 50% 25c Single line, 30% $1 SL and
20% 50c, $2 (10 cred $1s) and 50-play. But, I'm playing 10-12 hrs per day. And even if I
don't sustain it the whole 60 mins each hour, when I AM playing, it's these new fast
machines, and I got clocked at 20 hands per minute, without effort (on triple-play).
So the upshot of this is, on my latest trip, host said to expect a package in the mail, with
an upgrade to Baron. The only whoop-de-do I will notice is my comp balance limit incr. to
$900 from $600. I maxed out to the 600 limit last trip, but I went shopping for booze and
a nice pricy $250 black leather jacket w/ SL logo from the gift shop. I see my points go
over 2000 pts every full day I'm there, and it looks like I got 3 consec trips at this average,
so I'm IN.
Wouldn't it have been simpler to just cut the point return on VP
machines from $20 to $12 per point and keep the same tier criteria?
HEY 2-Wild- I think yer math needs a pencil sharpening. First off, if they changed this
part of the formula, it would cause chaos at the lower comp levels where (maybe) the point
total level limits haven't changed.
2nd of all, now, I ain't always The Math guy, but
I think you divided when you shoulda multiplied. BUZZZ. no partial credit.
Old level: Slots: 1200 pts x $10 coin-in/pt = $12K coin-in
VP: 1200 pts x $20 coin-in/pt = $24K coin-in
New level: Slots: same (?!)
VP: 2000 pts x $20 coin-in/pt = $40K coin-in
To get us to play $40K for 1200 pts,
it would be 40,000/1200 = about $33 coin-in/pt.
Not $12 coin-in per pt!
Have to wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye.
Well, I would guess a wild SWAG that they get a net return of 1-to-5% on their video poker
coin-in, depending on the skill and game selection of the player.
And they are getting (my SWAG again) a fixed 4-to-8% return on the coin-in of slot
players, no such thing as skill.
so, my 1% loss on my $40K coin-in is about equal to the 4% loss of the $12K that a slot
player puts thru.
Anyone talked to a host lately?
I did. Just the other day. See above, got my upgrade. I didn't ask for formulas, I didn't
realize this change of limits was goin on. I prefer to stay low-maintenance and I'm lucky
host is taking good care of me. A few months back, he DID babble a bit about THEO. I
didn't pay any attention. Maybe there's a back-room observation and calculation of THEO.
Scheme on.
And thanks for the holiday shopping info sharing tedChee! That figures out to $200-
$250 for me, I think I got 3 visits this year. I'll be at Pepps Dec 1-4, but I suppose that's
worth a taxi ride over to Silver to pick up my shopping certificate. I see I have until April
to spend it. There's a new clothing shop on the mezzanine across from the Harley shop -
Trade Winds. I didn't go in, but with a quick look I saw only one-color plain lookin stuff.
