I hit a Straight Flush today on a progressive bank with five meters
at Harrah's in Tunica, MS. The SF meter was $1,865 when I hit it
(reset is the standard $250). This meter got nearly this high
($1,400) on Valentine's day. In addition, I have hit it before at
over $700.
This meter accrues at 0.4%, so I figure it took 80,750 hands to build
up this high. The basic game is 7-5 Bonus Poker with an expected SF
once in 9,346 hands. Using "average" values for the progressive hands
the SF is one in 9,247 hands. Using 9,300 hands as an average, the
usual value of an SF on this progressive should be $425.
At the $1,800 level, WinPoker gives one SF in 5,411 hands, which
implies a highly modified strategy. I used VPSM to generate such a
strategy (which was totally unnecessary, as I was dealt 4 SF and just
held it).
I have read, and now sincerely believe, that "average" players over
hold to the RF but ignore or miss 3 SF holds. How else could this
meter get so high so often? I hope it's true. That would mean I can
look forward to more monster SF plays in the future.
