Getting out of Harrahs/Venetian is still a mess, due to the monorail
construction, but shouldn't take too much extra time.

The whole idea of the monorail is to get rid of some of the extra traffic in
Vegas, however they probably would have been better off just to build it down
the center of the strip, since many of the stops will now be in the back of
hotels and require a considerable walk. Still it should be useful if you want
to get from the strip to LV Hilton and Convention center or to downtown (once
downtown extension is built which will be done at a later date).

Construction is going full-out and you can see it in full bloom all over
Paradise by the Hilton/LVCC, and in the back of Harrahs, etc.

I believe they don't intend it to be finished until 2004 or 2005. There will
be a long time (months) of testing once the monorail finishes construction.

I have some questions about it - how long will the trip take? (there are a
lot of curves and turns since the monorail does not run in a straight line).
How noisy will it be (maybe you won't want a hotel room that overlooks the
monorail). How much will it cost (I've read $5 each way)? Will bus passes
include the monorail? Will you have to get on and get off to go to certain places
(I understand there will be a "spur" to the Stardust - that sounds like you
will need to transfer. Will the downtown route be a "spur" when finished?)?

Still even with the high cost this no doubt will be a major tourist
attraction, since I can imagine that every 1st time Vegas visitor will want to ride it
to see the city, and it should help eliminate some of the traffic of people
going to the Las vEgas Convention Center (LVCC) and Sands Expo convention
center, and maybe some traffic on Las Vegas Blvd.

I'm assuming that all stations will have escalators and elevators for the
handicapped, since the level above the street is about 2 stories high.

Perhaps some casinos will give a rebate if you use the monorail to visit
them? This is a nice thought.

I can give a partial answer. As a former resident of Orlando, assuming the
track is built the same way as at Disney it will not be noisy at all. One
of the things I like about the monorail is that they are using DisneyWorld
cars. If it is half as pleasant as its Orlando twin we will have nothing to
complain about.

I also remember seeing the fare would be $3.50, not $5. I didn't want to
post this the other day because I wasn't sure I remembered it correctly,
but I think $5 is too high.

Enjoyed your answer. I believe, as you, that after finished, it will help relieve traffic and not be intrusive. Even if the price is $5, which I also think too high an estimate, that still is better than a cab or smelly crowded busses in slow traffic. Unfortunately some people always look for the negative in any project and even if the project is a success, they will continue to find something to complain about.
