My thinking? If it's already losing money, how does raising the

66% help?
I think you make some good points. Interestingly enough, tourist
and locales
in most cities through out the world get a deep discount for
buying week,
weeks, month or annual pass. If they wanted to raise the price
they could have
conservatively done that each year, and provided those who travel
and locales
with a discount based on buying more tickets and committing to use
the monorail.
Is this just a project gone wrong or is there a problem in Las
Vegas with
other project management?
First of all they hired the wrong people to build it. They took
some bad press over parts falling off. Second, there is just alot
of walking involved to ride it, especially if you are staying on the
west side of the strip. People ride it once or twice and say to
hell with it. I don't think it will show a profit until it is
extended to downtown and North Las Vegas. North L.V. brings in the
casino employees. Just to downtown will probably pull it out of the
hole. According to the RJ, the strip bus route from downtown is the
most profitable bus route in the nation. The Monorail would capture
that ridership, but the bad press caught the eye of Congress and
funding for the extension has been delayed or may never come at
all. Imagine being able to go from downtown to MGM in 20 to twenty-
five minutes.
