Mohegan TR

Hadn't been to Mohegan in about four weeks. Went there Saturday
early AM and played mostly $1.00 Pick'Em in the old poker room. Not
very crowded in the old poker room There were always 2 to 4
machines open all AM until about 1:00 PM. Guy next to me scored a
straight flush 7-J in spades for $1,199. Before noon I scored a four
of a kind (9-9-9-9)for $600 and shortly thereafter took a break up
about $500.

Played a little real blackjack (which I hadn't played in about 6
months). It hit me what a really slow moving game BJ is compared to
VP. Couldn't seem to get into it. Left about even with a $30 BJ loss
after about 45 minutes.

Had a late breakfast/lunch at Fidelia's about 1:00 PM. I find food
there to be excellent on a consistent basis. The side of bacon was
undercooked, but the waitress happily brought me a perfectly cooked
replacement order in about 3 minutes.

After lunch, played about 1/2 hour of $0.25 Pick'Em in the no
smoking section of sky casino. Left Mohegan about 2:30 up $450 in
cash and ahead $60 in comp points.

I leave Thanksgiving morning for Vegas/Henderson, NV for a week
starting with three days at Green Valley Ranch followed by 4 nights
adjacent to the strip at Faifield Grand Resort behind the Alladin at
Koval and Harmon.

Was it hard mentally( for want of a better word) to play quarter
pick'em after playing at the dollar level or was it simply a matter of
protecting your winnings while "killing" a little more time before you
left ?

Usually when I'm up quite a bit, I set a stop loss point as to what
I'm willing to lose back. Since I set my stop loss at a $20 loss
that day, playing $1.00 x 5 coin seemed pointless. So to be
guaranteed of more than 3 more minutes of play time I dropped down
to quarters. I also set a stop win of $80 on the upside.

I used to drop down to quarters after losing at $1.00 Pick'Em. But
getting my four-of-a-kind on a quarter machine immediately after
playing and losing $300 to $500 at the dollar level with no four-of-
a-kinds cured me of that.

I almost dreaded getting four-of-a-kind in that situation of
dropping to quarters. I was only playing quarters in hopes of
minimizing the bleeding. But getting the four of a kind at quarters
then was actually disappointing.

It's like losing hand after hand at $25 BJ, and the minute you cut
back to $10 you start winning but on the big $25 double down hands
etc, you can't draw any good cards. But again as soon you you cut
your bets you start winning.

Now I only play quarters on Pick'Em when I'm up significantly from
$1.00 play and want to protect my winnings. Also the air is
significantly better in the no smoking section of the sky casino.
Sometimes the air in the old poker room becomes a little "thicker"
than I'd like it to be (probably less thick when I'm winning
though :).
