For those of you that play in CT, the Mogehan Sun put in 20+ $1 9/6 in the
Casino of the Earth a few months ago - they recently changed most of these
to 8/5. As of last night there were about 5 9/6 left in this section. It
is actions like this that makes me wonder if casino executives are idiots.
The fact that a casino decides it wants 8/5 rather than 9/6 may not be
surprising. But to put in 25 or so new 9/6 chips and then change them them
to 8/5 within a few months seems odd. Perhaps not. Perhaps it was part of
an experiment. Perhaps these guys will drive me nuts.

With regard to Mohegan Sun, they made another change recently that
deserves (negative) mention. They had a bunch of rather old $1 IGT
slant tops in the Casino of the Earth, some of which were 9/6/5 DB.
I'm strictly a DB player, so I didn't really take note of the pay
tables on the other games. All of those old machines have now been
replaced with new multi-game slant tops. I checked out the DB pay
table, and they cut it from 9/6/5 (which is no bargain anyway at
about 97.8% payback) to 8/5/4 (which is sheer robbery at about
94.2%). The best DB pay scale I've found at Mohegan Sun is on their
quarter and half Game Makers, which offer 9/6/5/80.
I play about 10 hands a minute. That's 600 hands an hour. At the $1
level, playing max coin, I'd be putting $3000 an hour through the
machine. The approximately 6% difference in ER between 10/7 and
8/5/4 would cost me on the average about $180 an hour! (And that's
if I even bothered to master the strategy for 8/5/4 DB.) Naturally,
I won't play 'em. Heck, it would make more sense to spend the money
on airfare and go to Vegas for the weekend!
I lived in Las Vegas for 7 years before moving back to my native New
York, and I really got spoiled by the great VP games available
there. While it made sense for me to play VP in Las Vegas, in CT it
seems I'm better off playing pai gow poker or blackjack.
Does anyone have info on the best DB available at Foxwoods, or in AC?

Dont be too sure about blackjack. They have apparently instituted a
mandatory $5+$1 Mikohn game called Blackjack Bonanza with specially marked
cards. No information is available about basics like the rules or the odds.

I've seen that game.....and I avoid it. Mohegan Sun has plenty of
standard blackjack games in addition to Blackjack Bonanza.

Hmmm....not full pay, but outstanding for CT. I've always liked
Mohegan Sun better, but I may have to give Foxwoods a look when I'm
up that way in a couple of weeks. If they only have two of those
9/7/5 machines, I'm not going up there expecting to find one of them
available.
I remember when I was at Foxwoods a couple of years ago, they
actually had 9/6/4 DDB on their quarter triple plays in a non-smoking
area. The DB on those same machines wasn't nearly as friendly, but I
don't remember the exact pay table.

I have played them several times and there are usually one or both
open. People are too busy playing the 8/5 or 7/5 DDB next to them.
The 9/6 DDB have been downgraded to 8/5 I believe, and the rest of
the paytables are just as bad. -Russ
Thanks for the info, Russ. I'm planning on being at Mohegan Sun on
May 10th, and I just might take a ride over to Foxwoods to see what's
up.
