mixed vp and slots or keno machines

This subject came up in the last GWAE radio show. Back in the day, if you were a vp player, it was usually a good thing to play mixed machines, those that weren’t just vp, because they often compensated (“comps”, what the casino pays you to play bad machines) at the slot rate or something between slots and vp, which is better than just vp alone. These days, if you’re playing some slots or keno for cover or even gain (some are beatable) it’s usually a bad omen if there is vp on the same machine, even if it’s a bad paytable, because such machines almost always compensate at the vp rate which is generally dismal these days, even for bad paytables.
