Here is my experience on Tuesday August 10th, 3 o'clock Mac King show:
My son and I did the mono-rail Sahara to MGM Grand. Had lunch at
Monte Carlo Brew Pub (courtesy of my Laughlin play). Once we were
sat (joke #1)we had a good lunch and great service. Swiss Burger and
rootbeer for him and Pastrami-pastrami sammie for me. The Pale and
Stout were fine, but give me Main Street Station (trip homebase)
homebrews anyday, they are tops. Mandalays still make you go get a
comp slip (what a joke #2) at the slot club. MY $30 comp was 17
cents short.
We bought a 10 trip Monorail pass (good for a year, just hand it off
to the next guy) to check it out. Surprising was the jerky ride when
standing, be prepared.
I thought we should do the Mac King show so we got off at the
IP/Harrahs stop on the way back and headed to the Carnival Court.
Sure enough, a show girl (with braces) was handing out the coupons
for the Harrahs shows/buffets. I impressed my son with this
knowledge! We caught some tunes outside in the 112 degree heat
before heading for the showroom.
Let's get something straight...I don't stand in lines very well.
This was 2:30 pm when we headed up the escalator. At the second
floor landing a guy was screening people...real tickets or coupon
specials. The paying customers were welcomed up to the third floor,
where I understand is a larger showroom. The rest of us were asked
to get in line that stretched into the Improv showroom. We went for
a walk through the casino and returned at 2:45pm and sort of got in
line.
We sat down at the end of the line in the booths and checked out the
great pictures of the former comedians that have done this Improv.
Some chick and guy combo were directing traffic, letting 20-35 people
go up the escalator at a time. They were fretting. By 2:55pm it was
known that the line was too long for the seats available (#3). So
thirty of us were turned away on an August Tuesday afternoon.
Does this happen often, or were we just lucky?
I think I will seek out comped full pay tickets with my comp bucks
next time.
