I stayed at Mirage last week & asked my host a question but with regards to
the one-card system that MGM-Mirage is moving all its casinos to. The MGM
casinos that I play at primarily are MGM & NYNY with very infrequent play at
TI & Golden Nugget, LV. At MGM & NYNY, I maintain about the same trip ave but
play at a lower level at TI & GN. As casinos join the system, I was concerned
about how my lesser play at TI & GN would lower my overall trip average & the
effect it would have on future invites. So far it hasn't affected me as I
didn't have many trips to TI & GN & the old trips I did have are probably
buried by the moving average which averages the most recent trips (4 or 6?).
However, it was still a concern as Mirage has removed all of its lower
denomination JB & I think $5 JB is the lowest left. On a one-card system, the
ideal would be to stay where you want and play where you want. I would guess
that it doesn't work that way, at least not yet. If it did, the worst case
would be that everyone would stay at the premium properties & play at other
properties where the games were better with the upshot being that the premium
properties would become little more than hotels as customers abandon the
casino floor.
Anyway to put it all in a nutshell, my host told me that she reviews my
record for play at Mirage and that she treats TI as almost the same casino.
Reading between the lines, this means that lower play at other properties
does hurt the trip average & in order to continue to receive the same level
of attention, you need to work with your host. If you don't have a host at
Mirage, ask for a referral from the host or staff at your current casino.
Even if the review of play all works out, it's not a good system as it
requires a bit of work on the host's part & I'm leery of the promotional
offers which are generated by computer programs. I doubt if these systems
have the ability to make allowances for play at different properties & thus
weight that play higher or lower when it does its averaging.
BTW, I've asked PPE the same question & received a similar reply about how
they can "personally" review my play. It's an indication that there are no
good guidelines for handling cross-property play yet.
As an aside, another situation where 2 casinos are treated as one is Harveys &
Harrahs in Lake Tahoe where I have had frequent stays and the offers treat
the two as one and the stays can be at either place. It's taken them a while
to work things out as the points were being aggregated seperately (probably
due to different computer systems) & their people had to look at 2 different
screens then add up the points to figure out total play but it's now all in
one place and it seems to be working smoothly.
