Mini trip report.... 100 reasons to play VP at Ameristar in KC

I ventured to KC yesterday to cash my Harrahs coupons from the 10%
rebate program. I had redeemed my meal coupons at Harrahs earlier in
the month and was in need of nourishment before my all night VP
marathon.

Not wanting to waste Harrahs credits at their restaurants, I called
superhost George Gilmore at Ameristar KC. He graciously offered to
treat me to Bugatti's, their Italian restaurant, which I quickly
accepted. After an excellent meal, I ventured up to the bank of
100play 9/6 JB machines. Much to my surprise, a machine was open, so
I quickly sat down.

I started playing at the .02 level and hit a couple RF's and a dealt
FH, so after about 40 minutes, I moved up to the .05 level. After a
couple minutes, I watch as Jc, Kc, Qc, Ac and in slow motion......the
10c. Stunned, I watch as the machine autoholds and the hands slowly
fill in (even in turbo mode, they filled in slow). A bluehair next
to me asks "Wow, dealt, how much is that?" My brain instantly turned
to mush and I couldn't immediately do the math. After a few seconds
of trying to do get my head to function, I turn to him and
say "$8000". He gives me a puzzled look, and points to the screen,
saying "Looks like $20000 to me." I look back at the machine and it
then hits me, thinking to myself 'You idiot, you were playing .05,
not .02' I sit shocked, looking at the machine, shaking my head to
make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. Yeppers, that's $20000.
About a minute later, a slot attendant shows up, then George (who I
didn't even recognize, see below for details).

After getting paid off, George and I visited for a bit. For those
who haven't met him, do yourself a favor and look him up the next
time you're in KC. He's truly a nice guy and possibly one of the
best hosts anywhere.

There you have it, 100 reasons to play video poker at Ameristar in
Kansas City.

FYI for fans of George. He's lost about 130 pounds and is
looking/feeling great. He recently ran a marathon at a pace of 12.5
minutes/mile and is currently training for another..I believe he said
the Boston Marathon.

FYI2: Out of my last 4 'real' royals (not counting the .01/.02/.05 ML
ones), 2 have been dealt and 1 has been on the redraw. Math gurus,
what are the chances of that?

Wow, that is amazing! I play the 100 play there pretty often,
especially on triple point days, but I've never gotten (or even seen)
a dealt royal on 100 play. Congrats!

In picture 47 I think I can see someones face 'reflection' in one of the shiny buttons toward the bottom of the machine. Is that you?
Also, for a newbie here with minimal understanding of the games, please tell me how much your bet was (purely for curiosity of course). I can tell by the photo you were playing muliple hands.

Thanks,

Patricia

Congratulations!

As I've mentioned before, those 100-play machines at the Ameristar are
VERY popular. I wish the other casinos in the area would put better
pay tables on theirs.

He was playing 100 hands at a .05 credit level. That would mean his
bet (assuming max hands & max bet per hand) was .05 per credit * 5
credits * 100 hands = $25.

Or... the equivalent (both in bet and jackpot won) of playing $5
single line.

I don't consider myself a math guru but the chances of a dealt royal
are 4/2598960=0.00015%, in job optimum strategy the chances of drawing
5 cards is 3.246% and the chances of then catching a royal on the
redraw is 4/(47Combin5=1533939)=0.00026% (ignoring possible penalty
card) so combined, 3.246% x 0.00026% = 0.0000085% or average cycle
time of 11,848,900 hands.

That is impressive. Congratulations. I am still waiting for my first
dealt royal. If and when it happens hope it too is on a multi-line
machine.

Earlier in the week, about Wednesday, Lucky Lucy and I both hit
royals at Ameristar. The first time ever we have both scored on the
same day.

Today (Saturday) we headed to Ameristar again to cash in a coupon and
get a couple cheezy gifts. When we walked in the door the line for
the gifts stretched all the way through the casino from one end to the
other, must have been over a thousand people in line. We tossed our
gift coupons in the trash and headed for the casino floor. Lucky Lucy
scored another royal making three for the week and five for the past
four weeks (she hit four of them).

Looks like our loosing streak from hell is finally over!

Rick (and Lucky Lucy finally living up to her name)

Wow! Amazing how these numbers were programmed by IGT and others to
be the average cycle. No wonder why casinos make a lot of money and
not complaining to IGT to take back their machines. This will not
make too many "good randomness" people very happy. That 100-Play
dealt Royal should be coming again a lot sooner than what these
numbers indicate!?

chances of a dealt
royal

are 4/2598960=0.00015%

The above is from Iggy's posting. Is that the number you are refering
to?

It's not rocket science. By law in Nevada, a game that represents an
actual physical casino game, such as poker, must act like that game,
in the case of video poker that means it must deal from a randomly
shuffled deck of 52 cards. What are the probabilities? Well,
obviously, there are 52 possible first cards, then 51 possible second
cards ..., so 52x51x50x49x48 possibilities. However, you don't
identify a hand by its order (except for sequentials), for example an
AKJQT is the same as a KJQAT, so you have to figure out the possible
number of hand orders, again, 5 possible first cards, 4 possible
second cards, ..., 5x4x3x2x1=120. Now take
52x51x50x49x48/5x4x3x2x1=2,598,960. That's the number of possible
dealt five card hands. How many are royals? Well, there's one in
hearts, one in spades ..., 4. So the probability of being dealt a
royal is 4/2,598,960 and the average cycle is the inverse, i.e.
2,598,960/4. But that's just the average cycle. According to Poisson
(an old geezer/hustler who hung out at Monte Carlo) your chances of
actually getting a royal in one cycle is about 2/3, your chances of
going 3 cycles without a royal is about 5% and your chances of going 5
cycles without a royal is about 0.5%. If you are a gambler, you should
have those numbers memorized, you'd be surprised how often they are
relevant.
