Hi Gang:
Our rare midweek trip to AC turned out to be a profitable one thanks to a
stunning draw Tuesday night while we were playing in the Diamond Cove at
Harrah's.
Hedy and I arrived at Harrah's mid-afternoon on Tuesday and after being
assigned a very nice suite in the Bayview Tower we began playing on the
carousel near the Total Rewards Center that features 9/6 DDB. These machines
have been beating us up recently and, unfortunately, it was more of the same
as one Benjie after another disappeared with nary a quad showing up.
We decided to take a break to get something to eat, then went into the
Diamond Cove to cash in some vouchers. We usually don't play the bank of four
slant-tops in the Cove that have 9/6 JOB and 9/6 DDB because they are in a
"smoking permitted" area, but since it was a Tuesday night, the place was
nearly deserted and all four machines were open.
I sat down at the far right machine, put in a $100 bill and began to play
DDB. I immediately started to get some play for my money, drawing to trip
aces twice and a four-card royal in the first 15 minutes, then hit
back-to-back full houses. Hedy was playing some quarter Super Times Pay at an
adjacent bank and I kept playing along on my original hundred.
Then, I was dealt four throwaway cards and an ace of diamonds. I held the
ace and was stunned when the Q-J-K-10 of diamonds popped onto my screen for
a $4,000 royal!
I let out a yelp, jumped up and screamed, "My God, a royal!"
Hedy came running over and we both stared at the screen in amazement as we
celebrated. We've had a few royals from one-card draws in the past, but
they're always a big surprise when they fill in so suddenly.
That score carried us for the rest of the trip and we played very little
video poker the next day as I took part in Event No. 1 of the WSOP Circuit
Event at Caesars.
I played through the dinner break and finally busted out with 150 players
left (688 started) in the No-Limit Hold 'Em event. The bustout hand was a
classic.
I had just over $9,000 in chips left (we started with $6,000 and the
blinds were up to $300 and $600) when I was dealt pocket queens, the best hand I
had seen in about two hours. The player to my right pushed all in with a
slightly bigger stack, I did the same and, surprisingly, the player to my
left did, too, with the biggest stack of all. The player to my right had kings
and the guy to my left had aces!
I didn't get lucky ... aces held up ... and Hedy and I were back on our
away to Harrah's.
We leave tomorrow for Ft. Lauderdale and a Caribbean cruise aboard the
Oasis of the Seas so it was nice to head south on a winning note.
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy
