MGM Mirage Players Club/Aria VP

I recently spent 3 nights at Aria in late January. This was my first time at an MGM Mirage property in about 8 years. Found my old MGM Mirage card and used it during the trip. Earned about 21K in points. Was able to get all three nights comped plus $150 in food.

So now I'm home and I log on to the player's club web site. Have 20 offers, but none from Aria! Seems odd to me, most offers are from Mandalay Bay and the rest are from NYNY. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm surprised I don't have any offers at all from Aria.

Thoughts?

By the way, VP at Aria is just sad, as some have mentioned. And it's not just the paytables but the selection- probably the fewest VP machines I've seen at any strip casino. Plus, no Super Times Pay, no Spin poker (except in dollars- I think you need $135/spin since you play three games at once), no Multi-strike, no Ultimate X, no Double Pay poker. That said, we very much enjoyed the property- rooms are outstanding, service was excellent, food was good (but pricy- $8 orange juice at the cafe!) and I liked the layout of the casino.

Would be interested to hear other experiences with MGM Mirage Players club-- thanks!

Tom

First, MGM Mirage does not approach comps and offers like Harrahs does. So if you try to compare the two, you will be frustrated.

MGM Mirage has been trying to move players up to a higher property than their previous level. I imagine there is a fair amount of interest in Aria and offers and comps are not going to be as good from Arias as other MGM Mirage properties where they have vacant rooms.

The $135/spin is actually short-pay, like the other $1 games at ARIA. The triple spin poker game is full-pay at $5 level which is $675/spin if you play all 9 lines on all 3 games simultaneously.

You'll see ARIA offers shortly at playersclub.com, but most aren't as specific as their other properties. In general, about all you'll see for ARIA is "Call Casino Marketing for more details".

vpFREE members should be aware that many MGM-Mirage property offers on the website automatically include FreePlay. You may not get it if you simply call a host to book you. Therefore, log in to the Players Club website first. Then, have your host "build" upon the specific offer which the site extends to you. You'll not only get all the perks of the web offer but additional ones from the host as well.

I'm not sure I know what you mean when you say "build upon" the specific offer...doesn't seem you can book on line so you either need to call a host or VIP services. Are you saying you can use multiple offers at the same time?

What the OP means is make sure you know what you are entitled to before talking to a host, then ask them if they can improve upon the offer a bit.

Exactly.

On the Players Club website you might have a "Spring Offer" for two free nights and $50 FreePlay. You then call your host asking for that offer but requesting two show tickets, or a small suite upgrade, etc. as well. The worst case scenario is that you still get the original offer. Best case is you potentially get much more.

Good to know- thanks. Have you ever gotten a free offer for Hotel 32 at Monte Carlo?

They've offered that with some other great-sounding perks. But I've never stayed at Monte Carlo, and you rarely read anything about it here on vpFREE. Plus, when I visited there briefly a year or two ago there was nothing playable below $5. If budgeted to play at that level other higher-end properties like Bellagio or the limited Aria would make more sense as a choice.

On a side note, MGM-Mirage has its own "civil war" in recent email offers. One offer included only the south end (Mandalay up to Monte Carlo excluding the pompous MGM Grand). I suspect Aria has drawn customers away from the other upscale "north" properties (Bellagio and Mirage), causing them to offer lower rates and more comps. As a result, the less atractive "south" casinos are really having to scrounge for business. I think those of you who predicted Aria would cause this competition within MGM-Mirage are right on the money.

Don't mean to intrude, but we routinely get both Hotel 32 offers or if we want to come at other times, our host books us into it RFBL. Nicest accomodations and concierge service of anything we've found anywhere on the strip. We do play a mix of VP and slots. Like all strip properties, best VP is only at $5 level.

So what game did you play?

Good to know- I may inquire about Hotel 32 if an offer doesn't show up. How is the food/beverage lounge? Are you able to have breakfast there?

Thanks

I would say the play on my card was about 60% VP, 30% slots and 10% tables ($25 craps with full odds, 3 numbers going at a time). The VP play was mostly $1 9/5 DDB. The slot play was mostly on dollar slots, 9 or 18 dollars per spin.

FWIW,the "odds" bets at the craps table are not rated, since their house edge zero.

The table play wouldn't affect your points earned, although it could be a factor in future offers.

In order earn all those points, we needed about $95K of coin-in. That should be plenty good to get future offers from MGM casinos.

MGM seems to be keeping Aria offers a bit secret. Most people either are not getting Aria offers to show up on the playersclub site, and, most of those that do, are getting "call of specifics" offers.

If you want to say at Aria. Call a host and ask why he/she can do for you. With a $95K last trip, I'm sure you'll get more than a room a $150 food.
