MGM/Mirage Comps

First, I was told that because I'm a local, comps I earned expired in
30 days. Then, I played heavily toward the end of a month and came
back early in the next month and tried to get a comp and was told that
I had none, since they expire at the end of each calendar month.
Then, I was told by a supervisor that this is only what the regular
employees can do for me; if I've played heavily in a recent month, I
can ask a supervisor who can give me a comp based on that play. I
played very heavily right at the end of July, but none since. Last
night, I was told that I had "lots" of comps, and that, if I played
every 24 days, they would never expire.

Which is it?

At NYNY at least, comp dollar accounts for locals definitely do NOT expire, provided you play at least once every few months. We banked (and redeemed) about $1500 in comps. This comp account is shared with other MGM-Mirage properties; for example, using a "free" concert tix offer at MGM impacted our comp-dollar balance at NYNY. They tend to be rather secretive about your exact balance, although our host confided our exact balance on a couple of occasions. Also, NYNY has always been a bit "different" than the other MGM-Mirage properties, so it's possible that this does not apply at the Mirage.
