does this result in double free play (.33 x 2) or just double points
for the gift shop?

It is open to everyone. However, it can not be used with another
offer. Last year, some people I know didn't get the double points
because they were staying on comp offer from the marketing department.
BTW, unless I'm mistaken, the only thing that is doubled during the
month is Holiday Gift Shoppe points...not the comp/freeplay points.
Drat. I was told by a host that I was receiving double Gift Shoppe
points (but not double free play) because I was staying on a marketing
offer. The way she phrased it suggested that, if not for the
marketing offer, I'd have been getting 2x free play during my stay.

I think I wasn't clear. THe double points for August is a promotion.
Like (almost) all promotions at this group of properties, promotions
can not be combined.
Last year, a friend of mine stayed at NYNY on a comp room and extras
(free play or cash or maybe a VIPevent ... I dont remember)offer he got
from the NYNY marketing department. He thought he'd also get double
Holiday points, but he didn't. When he asked why, he was told that he
couldnt combine the two offers. Needless to say he was a more than a
little pisseince he felt his play warranted RFB and would have traded
the offer he claimed for the double Holiday points he would have
earned.
