MGM Grand Detroit ripoff

While playing a 20 coin max bet DB machine I hit a royal on a 5 bet.
Everything was great until I saw that it only pays 1500 credits and
not the normal 4000. I called for the tech., host or whoever. They
didn't have the slightest idea what was going on. There are 5 pay
columns on the screen. 1st coin, 2nd coin, 3rd coin 4th and then max.
After almost 2 hrs. of opening different machines and arguing they
came to the conclusion that after every coin from 4th on up the 4th
column would change. They put coins in and 5 only pays 1500.
Therefore that was all I was entitled to. I pushed the bet button
manually and it would take a 12 coin bet to get 4200 credits. The
rest of the payouts are the norm for DB 1-1-3-5-7-9-250-400-800-250.
What would the pay percentage be for that with a 1500 royal?
There were 3 woman playing near me that were screaming about it and
got up and left. There were I think 6 machines in this row left to
right the 1st 3 were 5 coin max bet{4000 royal} then a 20 coin max
{4000 royal} then 2 1500 royal pays. When the suits were there they
couldn't figure out why one 20 coin machine paid 4000 so they put it
out of service and said it was labled wrong. When the 4th column
changes per coin the number is red. There are still 5 pay columns
which would make a casual player think they would be paid 16000 for a
royal. I figured it was just the screen not working properly. The
head suit told me these were new from IGT and that the MGM techs are
the ones who program them and then smirked at me. When I finally
screamed at them and told them that it was false advertising and
caused quite a commotion I told them that I would never return. I
filled out a gaming complaint and turned in my players card. I expect
the complaint to be swept under the rug. This cost me $625. I told
them between my wife and I we were out $600 when I hit and that we go
there probably 25 times a year and take other new people with us and
in the long run they'll lose more than the $625 they cheated me out
of. I am not naive to the point that I think they care. So if you
must play at MGM Detroit don't play the 20 coin machines there are
more than a hundred others that pay normal. As for me I have no
choice but to go to Greektown. Ohio Bino

Ohio Bino,

I am not quite sure what your complaint is about? It is true that
traditionally a royal had a linear progression in payoffs until max
coins were played, usually 5 coins...250,500,750,1000,4000.

Alot of the newer games have more than 5 coin maximums, some up to
100. The paytables are not linear. According to the info provided
you actually got a 250 coin bonus for playing 5 coins, since
5x250=1250. You were paid 1500.

I have seen machines set up in very strange ways when the max coin
bet is greater than 5. It is our responsability to be completely
familiar with the game we are playing. Casinos set-up banks of
similiar games with different paytables (sometimes unknownly).

Recently, a casino I play changed their Game King max coin royals to
2500 from 4000 on a 5 coin game, but only at the quarter level, .50
and $1 remained at 4000. These new games today have a multitued of
paytable options...caveat emptor.

BS

I've been unpleasantly surprised so many times by
"non-standard" features on VP games that I make it a
practice to examine the machine thoroughly--and
especially the payscale--before I slip any money in.

I can't count the number of times a bank of machines
that look identical at first glance has had 1 or 2
"oddballs" in there with something different about
them (almost always to the player's detriment). And
I'm not so sure the casinos do this "unknowingly".

the casinos are out to get your money, by hook or by crook,
fortunately some states have regulations that limit the amount of
crookedness (the key is limit, even in nevada which has the strictest
regulations, casino cheating still occurs, for example the rigged
venetian drawing)

I've done it myself once and I have seen many people make this mistake...

At the Mohegan Sun, there are 45-coin max bet $1 machines. The first thing you do is sit down, press MAX BET, and when you get a high pair and it pays you 45 coins, you sit there wondering if you missed a full house, when in reality, you bet $45! BUT the Royal pays $4000 for a $5 bet.

OTOH, at Viejas Casino in San Diego, if you are playing multistrike poker and you aren't betting 100 coins per hand (4 hands, 25 coins per hand), the royal is merely 250 x number of coins bet. I won't play these machines because of this awful feature. It doesn't make sense because the Super Aces paytable in the Multistrike Game will pay 2000 coins for 4 Aces on 5 coins, but only 1250 for a RF!!!!

I'm not sure I agree Nevada has the strictest regulations. Missouri is
pretty tough. I don't know all the details, but I've heard one of the
reasons the Flamingo Hilton in Kansas City is now the Isle of Capri is
because of "improprieties" committed by the Flamingo in acquiring the
property (at least one guy went to jail for bribery). Then they were caught
rigging a contest. The Venetian was fined for rigging a contest. In MO, we
shut 'em down.

   Bino,

I know the bank of machines you are talking about. I have played
the on occasion when the progressive bank of vp machines nearby were
filled. I too started playing five coins for a few hands, but then
noticed that the royal only paid 1500 credits. At the time I said to
myself, "Self, this is a rip-off! I then cashed out and never played
them again. I'm trully sorry for your loss as I know how scarse and
precious those royals are. Suck it up and go out and hit another one
somewhere.

I hit my second Royal ever on one of those machines.
I was pretty annoyed also, at first.
Now I know better, the machines are marked "20 coin max".
I just treat them as $1 machines./ 0.25x20 = $5.00
There are usually plenty of "5 coin max" machines available, whne I
want to stay at the 0.25 level.

What is probably a worse injustice is that the JOB is 8/5, Bonus is
9/6 (I think)
