MGM downgrades the good pickem machines

I was at MGM tonight on 2/25 to play some pickem and pick up my weekly free play and I ran into a fellow pickem player who is always there and he told me that one entire bank of the good pickems were downgraded at the .25 and .50 denoms. The dollars remained unchanged on them at this time. The machines were out of service the night before and re-opened up today with the shorted paytables. He told me that he feared the other bank, the ones that I was playing on were next. While I was playing today, a slot tech came around at around 5pm and stuck a note on all the pickem machines saying that they were being taken out of service by 9pm tonight...... So the downgrades continue, at least the $1 pickem is there, which is kind of strange, you'd "think" if they wanted to cut potential losses from the pickem machines, they would short the $1 games first.

The NEW paytable if I can remember it right is pretty bad, I didn't write it down, but I think it is this:

10000/50/20 - EV:96.69 - Computer Generated

5 Credit Payoff Table:
ROYAL FLUSH 10000
STRAIGHT FLUSH 1200
FOUR of a KIND 600
FULL HOUSE 90
FLUSH 75
STRAIGHT 50
THREE of a KIND 20
TWO PAIR 15
9's or BETTER 10

I found MGM to be very busy and packed tonight and I guess what does it really matter, as I looked around people were playing 7/5 JOB and 7/5 DBL, DBL bonus, so I'm sure these machines will get played too, as the modified machines were still being played and people were playing pickem on it too, because my gosh, that Royal has increased to a 10,000 coin pay off now !!!!!

Knew it would happen sooner or later, these places don't even want to give us a chance to win. Oh well, will just stop going and save more money to go to Vegas a couple times a year!!!

The only full pay banks of pickem machines that I knew about were in 2 rows of machines, maybe about 36 machines total. To locate them: As you walk in the main entrance from the parking garage and then walked by the players club and into the casino, if you then looked to your left and towards the ceiling and walked towards the bar in the middle that has the tall glass with bottles on top of it, they are located right near there in back to back banks of machines in 2 rows on the new high def game maker machines.

I'm sure by now, they ALL have been changed and shorted at the .25 & .50 level though.

Another reason to ditch MGM. My last post looks even more prescient now.

Better question: where are you gonna use your freeplay now? I don't get freeplay anymore; instead a get a $25 free "bet" twice a month, which I prefer and is worth more than the freeplay anyway.

I'll use up my comp balance and just stop going then, or play pickem at the $1 level, if it remains. I'll play the few 9/6 JOB machines that I stumbled upon when I was there the last time also.

If you stop going, the freeplay stops also in a month or two, so there is no temptation to even walk in the place now !

That makes the whole cycle complete.

Quarter and 50 cents full-pay Pick'em used to be at these casinos back about ten years ago, or so, in the Detroit area.

Windsor
Windsor Raceway
Point Edwards
Hiawatha
MGM
Greektown

Dolores and I used to play Pick'em at them all, but especially at Windsor, with their beautiful fountain and Vegas-like atmosphere. Now that game is...LONG GONE!

I'm done with MGM and barely hanging on to Greektown (although they did recently put $50 in the machine for me each week...Bless their greedy little hearts). But, I'm figuring that it won't be long before they drop the NSUD full-pay games there also, and that will end it for me.

I'll probably be at Greektown Monday to run a hundred through NSUD, take my $50 freeplay, and get a comped meal at Bistro 555.

Hang in there guys, and good luck to you all.

PS: Soaring Eagle still has some good, close to 100% paying games, (full-pay Pick'em included)at one bar. Dolores and I will be up there in couple of weeks for her 39th birthday again. As always, Google or Yahoo VP Pappy to see what I'm up too (mostly poker stuff).

Yes the casinos are wringing the last nickle from the ENTERTANED GUESTS,
the pays on the slots are way down and that should less "enjoyment time" for all of us.
Firekeepers is too expensive for us,even for buss trips.
They played havoc with my fire account and never returned my email as to why.
