In light of the several comments so far rendered on this subject,
perhaps a more relevant question would have been: How many here are ex-
members of Mensa or opted not to join after "qualifying"?

NOW we're asking the right question, I think!

I qualified by my graduate school admission test scores, as I understand the way it works, but never bothered to apply. My daugher qualified in high school by some test scores as well, and my wife took her scores and paid her dues, so she was a member until it was time for her to pay her own dues -- she never went to a meeting and never read anything they sent her, totally not interested.

I have two older cousins, the senior of whom was having a party when I was in grade school, to which the younger one was directed to take me. He said to his older brother, "I hope it's not a bunch of your Mensa friends". At age 11, I was fascinated by the idea of Mensa, but like my disenchanted cousin, I got over it.

I WOULD suspect that some of the "superstitious" discussions I've heard here, about machines being "due" and other non-mathematical, illogical approaches to VP, would not last long in a group of Mensans (?).

Personally, while you might find an email discussion with a Mensan to be more logical, and thus might qualify it as "head and shoulders" above another discussion in quality, once you get face to face, many of the Mensans I've met are more interested in proving their point than in being good listeners - perhaps why my daughter never wanted to join.
