I like the term skilled gambler, rather than "pro." But there are many types of pros in other fields - I'm not sure what a semi-pro is - you play advantage games only half the time and blow your money on non-advantage plays the other half? There are part-times players who play professionally - they are pros in my book because they are skilled and make money at their "profession." There are retired pros. Is someone who has a huge bankroll and plays skillfully at high levels, but not all the time, a pro? What about a skilled gambler who chooses to play at lower levels but can find opportunities with a bigger EV?
There are lots of live poker players who are definitely pros is that field - make a lot of money - and then blow it on unskilled sports betting.
Everyone has their own idea of the definition of a "pro."

Thanks for the defining the various types of players, but the word
pro does have a precise and widely accepted definition. I do not
see any reason to redefine it for VP purposes.
The term skilled gambler and some other names are correct for the
players who burned out the AA in KC. I think almost 100% of the
students who take the SAT or ACT would select pro for someone who
makes their living at a sport or recreation. Websters also agrees.
Players living in STL or KC cannot make a living playing VP in
Missouri or the neighboring states. In fact this play is a good
example of why this is not possible. Someone estimated 800 hands
per hour and yearly earnings of $200,000. Did they get to play for
a year??? If they did not get a royal in this short timeframe they
probably lost money.
Skilled regular local players would have found this play soon and
therefore there is no reason for Carlos to apologize.
It is certainly a shame that all the AA is gone. I will ask Harrahs
to put back the lower denom AA, and I hope others will as well.

It is certainly a shame that all the AA is gone. I will ask Harrahs
to put back the lower denom AA, and I hope others will as well.
I'm sure I shouldn't say this, but the AA is still in the Harrahs
north of Topeka in $ and .25 denoms. It is only 1.5 hours for me and
takes 1 hour of play to pay the toll road fee. The $ is almost always
open, but I don't have the bankroll, although lately I seem to get a
royal every time I go. This makes up for 2004 when I couldn't hit one
if I started with 4 to the royal 100 times in a row. My last 3 royals
have been 4 to the royal. I am now up to 6 royals this year, with 5
on AA and 1 on 9/6 DDB. I guess I also got 1 nickle royal for $300
and 1 nickle big split royal for $200 but these were while I was
goofing off eating nachos and don't count.
Hurry because the Harrahs contract for Topeka runs out January 2008
(KC Star) and AA will probably be gone there too.

The $ machines at Harrah's Prairie Band have been discussed quite a
few times (including by myself). If the 'pros' were going to hammer
them, I think they'd have done so by now.
Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens to this casino in
2008. Does their 'contract with Harrah's expiring' mean they won't
be a Harrah's anymore? Or just that Harrah's will trust them to
manage it 100% on their own? I would think losing the Harrah's brand
name (and the rights to all the promotions/contests) would be a bad
thing.

Speaking of Indian casinos, Terribles recently took control of the
Lakeside Casino in southern Iowa. They also bought the Frontier in St
Joseph. The Lakeside was built as an Indian casino. Can they just up
and sell to a commerical enterprise like Terribles?
