Right. The game I played for a few hands was Double Bonus
with a base paytable of 9/6/4 and a max out paytable of
18/7/4. That's worse than the lowest paytable for DB in
Dancer's article, so the overall return is somewhere below
98.2%.

It is correct that when playing Max Out Poker with less
than eight coins, the base hand is filled-up first before
any coins go to the Max Out hands. I observed someone
playing today with just two coins per play.

I suspected that would be the case, but when I read in the BD article
that Max Out was sort of a "4th line version of triple play" I
entertained some hope that I could find a game that is positive short
coin, and this would have been it. Of course, there ain't such thing
as a free lunch. IGT sells to casinos, and casinos won't usually
offer you more ER for less action. Thanks for your reply.
