Marnell madness...CB & EW...Access Club

On June 27th they started handing out new cards for the slot club(s). Yep
they are separate at this time. The system is tiered with three levels (Red,
Gold, Crystal). It appeared everyone was getting the low level red card. You
got a decent sun screen for your car if you don't mind advertising for CB/EW.

The flyer and the boothlings would/could not tell what it takes to move up
cards or if your history of play mattered with the One Club. Upon card
insertion I was greeted just like the One Club, but with no points listed.

I appears it is $1 coin-in for VP. On the 27th the readers were counting
down from 4 like they were quarters. On the 28th the readers I tried counted
down from 100 like pennies. The few hands I tried on the 27th generated 31
points per $1.25 play, so it was counting .04 as a point. Maybe I should have
played more than 20 hands at 25X the published rate?

There are 17 rules. Rule #5: "It is against policy for a member to accrue
points by distributing their cards to other players." Never seen this spelled
out so explicitly.

Good Luck to us all.

**************************************
See what's free at

The Barona Valley Ranch web site is even more specific about
multiple cards. In the section on Club Barona Memebership details
they state: "Multiple cards may be isssued for members who want
to play multiple machines at a time. However, members distributing
their cards to players other than those registered to their account
may have their membership and all remaining cash and privileges
surrendered."

I checked out the Colorado Belle and Edgewater on June 25th.
Many machines at the Belle were either being serviced or installed,
but their intentions were obvious. The change at the Edgewater was
complete with a new Access Card available. I am guessing the old
One Club card would work until July 1st. On June 25th they would
not give anything earned on the old card and a few people were
upset. However, I think that was temporary and that on July 1st
it would be possible to get benefits earned. I did not care. I just
over heard this coversation at the new card booth in the
Edgewater. I was not even tempted to get a new slot card at this
time.

A look at the belle on June 28th showed most of "devastation"
completed at the Belle. I will be back to Laughlin soon and will
make a final decision about a card at that time. There is still
many playable options under a $1 at Harrah's and the Aquarius.
There is a little $.25 play at River Palms, Pioneer and the Golden
Nugget. I could not find anything full pay under a $1 at the
Ramada. I mostly play $1 or higher, but my wife and friends play
under a $1 so that is a significant factor where I play. Usually
I do not go as far as the Riverside. I do not like the casino very
much (smoke and crowded) and believe it has a few full pay machines.

I am saying that Laughlin has not been devastated, just the
Edgewater and Colorado Belle. I do not know what my status is at
the Belle. I still have some 5 night offers. They usually came
with a suite and the white food card (full food and beverage). I
have no idea what I will get now, or if I even want to trysince there
are other Laughlin options. I am thinking of booking at least one
trip at the Belle to see what treatment I receive. Because of what
they did, I will obviously be forced to "stiff them" at least one
time. Maybe I should continue to do it until they downgrade me. Who
knows, that may have happened already. The entry card has been
mentioned as first issue to everyone.

I guess that I am not too surprised and I will just adapt to the
new Lauglin environment. I have more than enough comped rooms
available at the Aquarius, Pioneer, Golden Nugget, Ramada Express.
And at Harrah's there are unlimited rooms. I also can book two
offers at the same time through a host. I needed to concentrate my
efforts better and this makes it easier. However, the "White Card"
was my biggest perk in Laughlin and it sure will be missed! There
is no way I will try to maintain it on their VP machines even if
the "perk" is still available

Bob- I look forward to your report on the CB and EW, and what you
plan to do in the future. I too have been treated very well with the
white card and upgraded rooms, and I get the idea these type of perks
have come to an end.

I was trying to get into the heads of the new owners, and trying to
figure out their marketing plan. The have something like 2600 rooms
to fill each night, and just how do they plan to do that. ?? They
are at somewhat of a disadvantage in that they have no real concert
venue. The EW has a small showroom, and the Belle has zilch, not even
a decent place for a lounge act. Harrah's, Aquarius and the Riverside
can bring in some name entertainment or events to fill up the hotel
and casino. That is really not an option with the set up they bought.
They also have no real convention facilities, so that is out.

Laughlin has been having a problem lately with declining visitor
counts and gaming revenue. Everyone seems to agree that Laughlin
needs to get more bodies to town. Just how does Marnell plan to do
that? The first thing we see is a complete retreat from playable
machines. I guess they do not want to cater to the gamblers? At least
not any educated ones. The penny slot machine people will play
anything with a bright light that moves and talks. Is that who they
are after? I suspect that they hired a cost accountant that
recommended they need to reduce the paytables to pay for the cost of
the new machines in XX number of years.

If the gamblers decide to stay away (which I plan to do), they may be
forced to offer some decent games to play. I saw this happen to Mont
Bleu at Lake Tahoe. I don't think Marnell really wants a label as the
worst gambling house in Laughlin- Does he?

Marnell has not revealed his entire hand yet. They seem to have set
up a stong slot card system, and I am not sure about promotions. The
current summer promotion is not a good one for me who travels a long
distance. A weekly drawing on a Friday (at the Belle) does not help
the weekend visitors, nor someone like me that has to be back home on
a Saturday. It seems geared to the locals, but they will not fill up
the hotel. ?? I have heard some reports of much better food
offerings, but that is certainly not going to get me to stay at the
Belle and play terrible games.

I will sit on the sidelines here watching what unfolds. I certainly
have no plans to visit Laughlin soon. I live only a 3.5 hour drive
from Reno and Lake Tahoe, and Northern Nevada still welcomes gamblers
with very decent VP offerings.

I guess you are asking me. ? I would recommend that you pick up a
copy of the Entertainer when you get to town. It is full of specials,
listing of shows, and just generally what is going on in town. You
will find this magazine near the check in area of all the hotels.
They have an abreviated version on line
http://www.laughlinentertainer.com It is updated every Wednesday.

Buffets? Gosh all the places have buffets except the Golden Nugget. I
am guessing you are staying at Harrah's? They have a very good
buffet, but more expensive. Steaks? I seldom eat steaks, and the last
one was one month ago at the Orleans Room at the Colorado Belle which
has been closed. The trend in steak houses seems to be toward chains.
They have the Salt Grass at the Golden Nugget, and Outbacks at the
Aquarius. I hear good reports about the Prime Rib room at the
Riverside also. Once again I am certainly no expert about steak
houses in Laughlin. Check out this site:
http://www.laughlinnevadaguide.com/dining.htm

Shows change often, and you did not mention your dates of visit.
Shows are generally pretty poor in town with an occassional big name
passing through town.

We will be there starting tomorrow and I will check this out. I
think if people are smart - marnell will have to change everything
to get the old customers back. ALOT - and I do mean ALOT of locals
play at RP because they love DDb and WHA...so Marnell won't even get
them there. I guess we will decide after we check it out whether
getting a new card will be worth it to us. Maybe I will get a card
and then just wait and see what the new owner decides to do. I
venture to say that when the summer months are gone - he will be in
a bad situation and have to change the pay schedules to get at least
the Arizona and Calif visitors in.

I truly recommend venturing out. Now that it is summer - take a
taxi to the RP and then walk the river walk. In the winter we climb
the mountain of stairs in the back to get to the road and then we
walk on down to different places. But you do not want to do that in
the summer.

guess you are asking me. ? I would recommend that you pick up a

copy of the Entertainer when you get to town. It is full of

specials,

listing of shows, and just generally what is going on in town.

You

will find this magazine near the check in area of all the hotels.
They have an abreviated version on line
http://www.laughlinentertainer.com It is updated every Wednesday.

Buffets? Gosh all the places have buffets except the Golden

Nugget. I

am guessing you are staying at Harrah's? They have a very good
buffet, but more expensive. Steaks? I seldom eat steaks, and the

last

one was one month ago at the Orleans Room at the Colorado Belle

which

has been closed. The trend in steak houses seems to be toward

chains.

They have the Salt Grass at the Golden Nugget, and Outbacks at

the

Aquarius. I hear good reports about the Prime Rib room at the
Riverside also. Once again I am certainly no expert about steak
houses in Laughlin. Check out this site:

Shows change often, and you did not mention your dates of visit.
Shows are generally pretty poor in town with an occassional big

OMG!! Walk in 125 degrees or more?? I am Wisconsin born and bred....we melt in anything over 95 degrees. Ever see a puddle on the river walk in summer?? That is a Wisconsinite who forgot the melting temp!!LOL:)

Now now, be optimistic, it may only make it up to 115 during your
visit. Remember, it is a dry heat! Actually I have made the Laughlin
death march in the summer several times (Riverside to Harrah's), and
lived to tell about it. As others have said, you ought to plan one day
to explore the other casinos of Laughlin. Start out early with a river
taxi down to the Riverside, and start walking back. Poke your head in
each place, and rehydrate as needed along the way. It is a fun way to
spend the day, and if it becomes too much, just grab a cab back to
Harrah's for about ten bucks.
