Markers and VP

Are there any advantages for VP players to take a marker? Some years back taking a marker at the casino used to get some great comps but I don't imagine it works this way at the casinos today, unless you are 'high roller' category?

Since fees are so commonplace these days with the airlines, banks, etc., does the casino charge the customer a fee for the marker?

Any opinions on casino markers in general?

Thanks much!

It depends on how much cash you want to bring with you on your trip and what you feel comfortable carrying. Some casinos will reward you with better comps. A Marker is a line of credit tied to your checking account.

If you decide to establish yourself:
  * Remember to do so two weeks before your stay to provide the back office time to process your request.
  * Call the cage and tell them you want to establish a credit line. They will fax or email, if they can, you a form to complete along with a copy of a check from your account. They will run your credit and determine your average balance, etc.
  * If all goes well you will be good to go and also have check cashing ability, too.
Good Luck!

Also, for what it is worth....the cage supervisor at Rampart told me that most casino's want you to think that the Marker must be repaid before you leave Vegas, but she said " the Nevada Law states it must be repaid within 30 days after accepting the money". True or False, I am not sure because I have yet to try it and hope I never have to.

This does not work with some brokerage accounts, since the "account number" on the paper checks that you use is not the account number of your brokerage account. I have had huge problems convincing people that the number they have to use is the number that I give them separately, and NOT the number printed on the check. By the way, the routing number on your checks is correct. It is the account number that is incorrect.

This is correct. A marker is effectively a 30-day interest-free loan,
except that at the end of 30 days they deposit the marker against
whatever bank account you have on file, and it gets deducted from your
account whether you want it to or not, subject to bouncing, etc.

Most casinos I have dealt with are willing to mail a statement home
before depositing the marker, giving you a chance to pay from a
different account if you so choose (which is how I deal with the
brokerage account number thing someone else mentioned; not that I sell
stocks to pay off gambling debts, but my brokerage cash account earns
more interest than my bank checking account so I keep most of my liquid
$$ there).

In New Jersey state regulations govern markers, in the Nevada the casinos can do whatever they want - 30 days is a standard policy, it is not the law. Some casinos will not give you the 30 days on first trip without arrangement with a host, they want to see one check clear first. Station reduced the time to pay back for lines of under $10,000 to 14 days some might be as short as a week. International high rollers get months to pay it back.

The rule at Ballys Atlantic City is that if the marker is under $1,000 they
will deposit your marker in 7 days, over $1,000 they give you 14 days. The
unstated rule is that if you take a marker and have a winning trip the
marker should be paid in full before you depart the casino!
