Mark just saw a couple of pictures you posted from Reno. You were my favorite poster on the Reno forum. Based on a previous post you may be retired now. Are you increasing the frequency of your Reno trips? Hope you will have time to post again!

Hey Jeff & my Fan Club (HA!) -
thanks for the lure back to posting. While I don’t have a trip report to file, I’ll give an update:
Yes! I retired officially as of April 1, 2013. No April fooling on the date- it’s been my plan to retire as soon as I hit age 55 for many years prior, and I stuck to it. Pension is good coin, but the exact amount didn’t matter to me, as there was no way I wanted to work even one extra day to make a few dollars more per month.
I took a short leave beforehand, my last day of work was Dec 21, 2012.
34 years of toil in Seattle aerospace engineering structure design.
I’ve decluttered my house & purged all my work and union reminders.
Just this month, I’ve moved in with my girlfriend, renting a nice modern big house. So, life is good.
I’ve kept to the same VP Reno Tour schedule for the last few years - every 3-to-4 months - but have generally been thrashed. I’ll save up a bankroll of 3 paychecks (now it’s 2 pension checks) and I’ve been stunned to lose it over a 4-5 day visit.
I know it’s been quite a long time since I posted a T/R, mostly because of the big losses, but sometimes I don’t even earn a tax form playing 50c/$1 or $2 denom. Not much to report and in no mood to write it up. We’ll see how it goes, my next visit is New Years…
I’ve been playing almost exclusively at Silver Legacy & Peppermill. I’m getting comped food, limo & suites at both, per usual, thanks to the same two hosts I’ve always had; plus I’m getting $750 freeplay at Pepps. Silver is lower, $175 freeplay, but the resort credit of $125 there is easily spent and there’s an earned comp that’s convertible to freeplay at the machines now. I haven’t figured out the %, but it amounts to at least $200 for a 4-day visit.
I still take index card notes as my trip log, and I still bop around playing BP, DDB, NSUD & JW. single line & 3 or 5-play.
I’ve somewhat fallen off the Scrabble tournament circuit, but I’ll get back to that soon also. My prodigy son unit still plays at the top level of tournament scrabble nationally. My other older son got a teaching degree, got married & bought a house. My mom still is on the Scrabble circuit back east.
I got to spend a long 8-hr session at the Seneca Niagara casino in Niagara Falls a few months ago, played mostly $1 BP. Same losing result, but this all-nighter was funner than usual as I brought along my iPod and had loud Red Hot Chili Peppers and Primus/Les Claypool playing for the whole 8 hours. I’ll make that iPod a regular part of my ‘gaming experience’ from now on.

Mark it’s great to hear from you! I can understand that frequent losing can dampen the creative spirit to write trip reports. I always found your reports well written and loved the numbers. My wife and I used to go to Reno 4 times a year. I retired this June , but at the much older age of 64.
We have a trip to Reno planned for early next month. Haven’t been in almost 3 years. I was one of the so called advantage players at the Peppermill and Atlantis that lost all my perks. We are really looking forward to it.
Hope you have great luck in January and get the urge back to start writing trip reports again. Enjoy your retirement and keep in touch!
