Malfunction voids all plays ...??

I can't recall hearing of any video poker malfunctions that
voided a payout. I have heard of slot machine disputes and
promotional disputes.

The odds of getting your money when a malfunction is
involved would depend on where it occurred and other
factors. Probably it's best not to have it happen at an
Indian casino.

Although I also have not heard of any VP malfunctions resulting in voided jackpot, I was told to keep (and have always kept) the kicker when you're dealt four of a kind, because if a fifth one came up on the draw it would probably void the payout on the quads.

The first time I hit a high-denomination royal, part of the payout process was having a technician examine the machine (this was at Treasure Island long ago); the only other high-denom. royal I've had was at Golden Nugget where I don't recall this being done. Obviously, if they saw any evidence of tampering, they would not want to pay -- and I don't know if one has recourse if they SAY they saw such evidence but you didn't do anything wrong, other than asking for the gaming commission rep to come in on the spot and intervene (if there were videotape of your play, it might serve to prove your case, I suppose, and the rep could assure that such tape is saved).

Which makes me ask, does anyone have additional suggestions for what to do if this ever happens?
